OnlySunshine
In spite of everything that has been happening with my health, I'm very hopeful I can go back to school soon to get my Masters degree as I planned when I graduated last year. Unfortunately, my alma mater discontinued the degree program that I was interested in and the Master equivalent of my Bachelor degree is too focused on hospital administration and finance - my concentration in my Bachelor degree was Aging Services and I work in a retirement community. I am not interested in any more finance courses. Anyway, I decided to look at other graduate programs and found one that has an MA in Gerontology and has a concentration in Professional Geriatric Care Management. My long-term goal is to become an Assisted Living Administrator and, though the current ALF manager does not have a Masters degree, my boss was very happy to hear that my goal was to get one. They are planning to expand the community to include a 2nd ALF facility and will need someone to manage it, so that's what I'm hoping for. Gerontology would be perfect, especially after reading the curriculum course descriptions. The school is nationally recognized and, because my GPA at graduation was 3.80, I am not required by this school to take the GRE like I would be at my alma mater. That's a huge weight lifted since it includes algebra and analytical writing and I was worried I wouldn't pass. I'm still looking at other possibilities like Social Services but so many of the programs are geared for those who seek to become clinical social workers and therapists, so that's not really my focus. Please say some prayers that I can prepare during my surgical recovery for the ALF administrator exam (the next one is in November) and get ready to start graduate school soon.
