We really do need to start talking to kids about vocation - all kids, not just the ones that fit our perceptions of who will fit a religious vocation. It would have a really powerful different to both marriage AND religious vocations.

There's several anecdotes about priests in the past asking any young unmarried persons in the confessional whether or not they thought they had a vocation  - and several nuns mentioned this is when they started to think about it. Today, that's obviously a problem as there isn't the strong custom of going to confession, but if priests and religious (and the laity too) would be more willing to speak of being a religious in positive terms, I think it would be a step forward.
