Jack4
Howdy, I am J., a faithful son of the Church (and very proud of that! ). I am an Eastern Catholic of the Syro Malabar Church (see my avatar, isn't it wonderful!) I respect your traditions, please respect mine. I probably am one of the youngest posters here; I turned 16 last month. I am a cradle Catholic. I live in the country India. My mother tongue is Malayalam and I know a smattering of Hindi. As you can guess from that (,and as you can feel when you read this), English is not my first language. (Feel free to ask me if you don't understand me, and feel free to correct my English mistakes). I have a deep respect for the theologians of the Church (particularly Aquinas and other Doctors) though I don't always understand them. The phorum seems to be flooding with PhD and JCL holders, so, please pardon my absurdities and mistakes. I know a priest online who has a great impact on my life and I came here searching for more wise people like him. I have a good impression about the phorum because of 1) St Josemaria Escriva and the CCC quoted in the Phorum Guidelines, and 2)humour sense. In real life, I have seen almost only orthodox priests and church-going laity so the "crisis in the Church" I hear about is a far cry from what I experience. I shall treat you with respect and charity and I expect the same in return. That's all about me. Is there anything that prevents my participation? (If you are a Mediator of Meh, please see http://www.phatmass.com/phorum/topic/142984-please-help-using-the-phorum/) God bless you all. Luigi
Welcome aboard, Jack4! I used to work with a man who spoke Malayalam, but he didn't teach any to me. I took two semesters of Hindi in college, but the professor was AWFUL! She was trained in philosophy, not teaching of language. Your written English is excellent - clear and easy to understand. Note: Peace is using sarcasm here (well, at least half sarcastic). Peace is very nice and has a great "humor sense." Note: In the U.S., we tend to say "sense of humor" but I like your phrase better, and may borrow it in my posts. In their deepest heart of hearts, most Phatmassers probably want you to covert to Roman Catholicism. However, if you are respectful of their beliefs, they will be respectful of yours (well, unless you venture onto the Debate Forum--stay away unless you like arguing--I personally don't enjoy arguing, but others do). Phatmassers have been very respectful of me, but I know at least half a dozen of them, maybe more, and a couple of them nuns, who are quietly praying that I convert. I let them (not that I could stop them). If God tells me it is his will that I, personally become Roman Catholic, I will. (However, God has not told me to do so--and I DO know his voice--I have obeyed in other matters.) I do my best to maintain a good "humor sense" about all this, and mostly I get along fine. Welcome to the phorum! I understand now. I still don't know the status of all the various Eastern Churches, and which are recognized by the Roman Catholic Church. I'll get it eventually..... Of course, many of the Eastern rites also have Orthodox churches of the same names.

Oh, I forgot to mention, India was a former British colony and we use British spelling. eg. centre, colour, dialogue. I am a baptized (and chrismated) Catholic, I accept the Pope of Rome. People usually change rites after inter-Church marriages. And I don't see myself marrying anytime soon.
