CatherineM
I guess I'm angry because Pope Francis was supposed to be getting rid of the supposed gay mafia in the Vatican. Making a gay man a bishop isn't going in the right direction.
Anomaly
My point was intended to not differentiate between gay or hetero, if one is discussing a priest. Either you are celibate and act properly chaste, or not! What your temptations are is irrelevant. All humans are tempted to do things we know you shouldn't. Either you are mostly successful at it, or not. It's BS to think you're allowed a different standard for your "special" wants I can't imagine why a priest needs to make known their sexual temptations as an important part of their identity. It should be irrelevant. It is a bit disgusting that this is a point of debate within the Catholic Church, but not surprising to me.

I want to talk about gay men who are already ordained. I was invited to an episcopal ordination for someone who is gay and I'm opting out. Before you ask, yes I know him personally and I know for a fact he is gay. At first I was surprised and as the day approaches I find myself getting angry. I'm not sure if that's an appropriate response, but it's an honest one. 2 What are you angry about in this situation? Of all the people on this forum, I would trust you to handle this better than most, so don't be hard on yourself. When you say he's gay, do you mean he's in a relationship or acting on his orientation? If that is the case I can certainly see it as a problem, or even if he particularly identifies with it. I'm assuming that the problem is something of that nature? I can see why that would make you angry, as Maggyie said.

You do not need to give an explanation. The best thing you can do is pray for him and his conversion. Ask our Blessed Mother to intercede for him and offer your penance for him. He needs your prayers.
CatherineM
I didn't go. I wasn't missed. The place was more than full of his adoring fans. Funny thing is that my biggest issue with him is that he hates having to deal with or be around the mentally ill. He's being made an auxiliary for an inner city area in a large city with lots of homeless, so of course he won't have to be troubled by any scary schizophrenics. That whole 'lavender mafia' dealio that was right at the forefront in the months before Benedict's resignation. There was talk that Pope Benedict had in his possession a very extensive file on the subject which he left for his successor. Never to be mentioned again. It's sad because there is a priest that left to pastor a Lutheran Church and he is more in touch with the needy in the community. It is sad for Catholics it is sad for the community There is always a side-effect to this.

This is one of the most appalling threads imaginable. I note that you are a ‘church scholar’ … a ‘scholar’ of what exactly … because your post has nothing to do with the Catholic Church I recognize. You claim to have ‘knowledge’ of this Bishop and stand in judgment of his moral capability. Did you see fit to pass on your ‘knowledge’ to the relevant and competent authorities – the Apostolic Nuncio? The Congregation of Bishops? No, instead of this you decide to post your allegations on a website aimed at young Catholics. Did you think through the implications of what you were doing? You do not even make the most basic attempt to ananomize your statements ... as it would take no more that a few clicks on Google to identify the object of your salacious gossip from the information you have provided. To make matters even worse, you make your scurrilous allegations on the internet so that they will hang around indefinitely. Appalling! Absolutely appalling!! CatherineM is a highly respected member of phatmass. Who are you? Perhaps she started this thread to vent to friends? I too am wondering how a homosexual could be made a bishop when I'm pretty sure Pope Benedict said homosexuals shouldn't be allowed in the priesthood. Was this guy "grandfathered" in? I'm pretty sure Catherine is appalled by lack of obedience more so than this mans sexual orientation...
