Searching For 6 Years

Brother Adam

I've been searching for this song for 6 years now. literally....I just ran across it as we were at mass this last Sunday. I nearly flipped out right there in mass (as in broke down). I started singing in church for the first time since I can't remember when. (My HS choir teacher taught me I have a bad voice and shouldn't sing around people. My old music minister told me that my choir teacher had a place in the 7th circle of hell reserved for her. But alas, damage was already done).

I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.

Chorus
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.
I, who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall I send?

Chorus
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.
I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them.
They turn away.

Chorus
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my words to them.
Whom shall I send?

Chorus
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.
I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will send the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them.
My hand will save.

Chorus
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.
Finest bread I will provide,
'Til their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them.
Whom shall I send?

Chorus
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.

We used to sing that song all the time. I'm surprised you haven't run across it in 6 years.

We use that at the rite of election when we present new candidates and catechumens to the church.

I like "Be Not Afraid"...I sing it when I'm nervous...

And "Healer of Our Every Ill", while I think is pretty sappy, does have a nice tune going for it...and it sounds great on violin.

i love that song!

and brother adam, remember that God said, make a joyful noise unto the Lord, not make a joyful noise but only if you can sing really really well. you are pleasing God by singing His praises, remember that!

Brother Adam,

I'm sure you have a lovely voice, but I am reminded by your story of one from my Dad. When he was little the nuns told him not to sing, and he told me that "God gave me this voice so he'll have to listen to it!"

A friend told me, "God gave you your voice. If you don't like it, give it right back to Him in Church. If He doesn't like it, you'll probably wake up the next morning with a new one!"

Yes, Adam....listen to what they say. You don't have to take your wife's word for it that you have a lovely voice...
