Upcoming Surgery

I saw my gynecologist today about the pain I had last week that sent me to the ER.  My primary care thought I had an ovarian cyst, but, after an ultrasound was performed, my gynecologist said my ovaries were fine but I have a thicker-than-normal uterine lining.  He mentioned endometriosis and asked if I had a history of GYN problems in my family.  My paternal grandmother had endometrial cancer at 67 (she's now 81) so he wants to rule out cancer and uterine fibroids.  I'm supposed to call the scheduler tomorrow for pre-op testing as well as the date of the surgery.  Luckily, it's an outpatient procedure and will be done laparoscopically, but he also wants to do a D&C and I know that causes cramping and discomfort, so I'm probably going to be out of work for a few days, at least.  I'm so relieved to finally have answers and my doctor isn't like my GI doctor - who acted like it was all in my head.  I'm not very scared at all and I am hopeful this will cure or treat some of the problems I've been having.  :)
