Gabriela
This is going to make waves: http://www.thenewatlantis.com/docLib/20160819_TNA50SexualityandGender.pdf It would seem to be very important reading for Catholics, though.

Thanks for the link. I'll definitely take a look at it. It has made some waves already; there's been lots of posting about it on other websites. But I fear that it can be easily dismissed by others. I'm not familiar with the journal but it does not appear to be one with the highest reputation, and comes from a very conservative place of thinking. Not saying that the conclusions are incorrect, just more easily dismissed. Do you know any differently?

Probably they couldn't get anyone else to publish it but a lower-tier, conservative journal. Which just shows you how "objective" academia is. (I'm assuming, based on their reputations, that their methods were indeed sound.)

(I'm assuming, based on their reputations, that their methods were indeed sound.) I did a little digging on the authors. I didn't find a lot on Lawrence S. Mayer however I did find some concerning things about Paul R. McHugh. He seems to be a member of a conservative pediatrics advocacy with some concerning policies (mostly about LGBT people). Overall, IMO it's awful. There are very few contemporary references and a lot of out of date references (unless it was basically revolutionary anything more than 10 years old is considered out of date), a lot of it's claims are poorly referenced if referenced at all, it references some studies that just from the information given are methologically flawed. It's shockingly written considering this is supposed to be academic work. It condems various research that contradicts what it is trying to argue without giving any explanation of why. I could go on but I won't bore you. In case you're wondering, I am a psychology graduate.
