Guest JeffCR07
My question is twofold: First, is it wrong to genuflect when in line before receiving the Eucharist? I know that the Bishops have asked for the congregation to bow before receiving, and asked that people stick to it in the interest of being a unified community at worship, but at my church, very few people even bow. This having been said, my first question is how to deal with this conflict. In my heart, I feel like genuflection is the proper sign of respect for Our Lord, but at the same time, I respect the Bishops' plea for unity among the faithful. However, being "united" would lead to my not doing anything at all. My second question comes after reading Pio Nono's response to the initial topic on genuflection: Would it be improper if one were to genuflect (left knee) to a Bishop today? I think its a really cool tradition, and in my opinion, it helps convey the dignity and respect that a Bishop demands, but is it something that we shouldn't do because it is "out of vogue?" Pio Nono
JMJ 6/21 - St. Aloysius Gonzaga Jeff, 1.) If I were you, I'd just stick with bowing. It's not a direct answer to your question, but we'll have to stick with it for now. 2.) There's nothing wrong with it; some bishops like it, others don't. If you know what the bishop prefers, be sensitive to his will; otherwise, genuflect away. Hope this helps. Yours, Pio Nono
