LittleWaySoul
Anyone else here going back to school soon? I'm beginning the textbook search once more and thought I'd ask.
AveMariaPurissima
I like renting my textbooks from Amazon when I can. It's convenient and I think the prices are fairly reasonable.
zabbazooey
I have to buy books with my financial aid from the school bookstore. I don't have the money up front right now. And most of my books are tailored specifically to my school so there's no getting it cheap from a 3rd party Buying school supplies is one of my little joys I love buying new notebooks, highlighters, pens, getting it all organized. School starts in 2.5 weeks on August 22nd. How about everyone else?

I typically buy mine used because I like to keep them (and chances are I'll need them again anyway), but I've always been curious about this. 36 minutes ago, zabbazooey said: School starts in 2.5 weeks on August 22nd. Otherwise, bubble mailers are a good, cheap alternative. Amazon gives you a packing slip and a shipping label (you print it out from your account), and using those gives you free return shipping -- all you have to do is drop it off at a UPS location. PhuturePriest
I'm going to get my books as soon as UD gets its act together and gives me my official classes and specific professors, as the book lists vary from professor to professor! UD is actually great in that you can rent books from the school itself for dirt cheap. All of the books range from $7-$15 on average, and using a general estimate (since I don't know the specific professors), the cost for this semester was only $162. I plan to buy specific books that I particularly like and think will help me in the future. I leave August 14th for seminary, and classes begin August 24th. PhuturePriest
Blech. The rentals are already being back-ordered. This is why we can't have nice things, UD. Still, the books themselves are typically quite inexpensive, even when bought new.
LittleWaySoul
Ha, the grad school textbook life has been quite nice thus far. This semester's cost to buy used books was a total of about ~$70. Much better than my undergrad book expenses.
zabbazooey
You guys are suuuuuuper lucky. I am taking only 9 credits, and my books were $378.99! The lab manual alone was $128!!!

For example, for my undergrad in theology and philosophy, MANY of the books I needed could be found used for less than $10 each (some even as cheap as $1-2 or even $0.50). It still cost a lot because I was buying like 20/semester, but it wasn't bad compared to more scientific disciplines with actual hard bound textbook textbooks, you know? CatherineM
First time in 8 years that I won't be. I'm still toying with the idea of getting my JCL, but I have so much demand on my time now that I'm not sure I could give it my best effort. I am studying to be a physical therapist assistant. So I have to take anatomy & phys I, medical terminology, and intercultural communications. The anatomy books are pricy! Nihil Obstat
When I was in commerce I paid a lot for textbooks. Five hundred per semester give or take. I pay about a quarter of that now in philosophy.
