Guest
I just read the Popes new comments on Islam. Nothing but love and respect for Pope Francis from me. But I am feeling very uneasy about how Catholicism at least in this day and age views Islam and the Koran. Vatican 2 says we worship the same God. The False Prophet which Bishop Sheen says will be a Pope turned Antipope is going to bring all religions together under the Antichrist. An Islamic prayer was just recently said at Mass. I'm Catholic but I don't completely shut out Protestant Pastors and what they have to say. I've been hearing them warn about this since as long as I can remember. I have countless Catholics in my newsfeed saying Rome has gone apostate. The only way I would become Protestant is if the Holy Spirit led me there. I don't have any problems with Muslims. I'm around them almost daily. It's a false religion though. It flat out rejects Jesus Christ. Why are Islamic prayers being said at Mass? I understand that it's an attempt at peace but should this be happening at Mass? Why since Vatican 2 does the Church teach that we worship the same God as Muslims? If we truly do and the God in the Koran that completely rejects Christ as God is God then God is divided against himself or what? Is God just giving visions to everyone with key different points that have resulted in all of this bloodshed? Heck I don't know is Islam really the true religion? I know they have a heck of a lot of members and are growing and growing. To be honest I dont know much about Islam except that the God in the Koran explicitly says Jesus isn't God and he's going to correct him in front of everyone on the last day. I'm told here by Catholics that I should respect and have reverence for Islam. If this is truly the case and what the Holy Spirit is now teaching through the Church then I need to pray to continue to have my heart opened up to this. Although I dont see how this can be the case. The Bible says whoever rejects Jesus as God has the spirit of the Antichrist. This is exactly what Islam teaches. Anyhow nothing but love for all the Muslims out there. I have nothing against the Muslim people. God bless them. Edited August 2, 2016 by Guest

Maggyie
Josh, prayers for you, but the Church has always taught that people who attempt to worship the God of Abraham have the deity. That's like Jews who claim that Christians worship a false god.
Peace
Muslims deny that Jesus is God (as do most people on the Earth) but it seems to me that he is held in very high esteem within the Islamic faith. Read the Wikipedia page "Jesus in Islam". They dishonor him by not recognizing his full glory, but most Protestants are guiltily of that as well. I am not sure but I think that Bible verse says that anyone who denies that Jesus is the Messiah is an anti-Christ. Strictly speaking, do Muslims deny that Jesus is the Messiah? I honestly do not know. There aren't really too many explicit statements in the Bible that say "Jesus is God". I wonder why you spend so much time fretting about Islam in particular? It seems to me that most of the Eastern religions are worse. Do Hinduism and Buddhism keep you up late at night too? Just wondering? Anyway, I think that it is OK to question whether or not one's religion is true. If the Catholic faith is true, which I believe it is, then it can stand up to scrutiny by others, as it has for a good two thousand years now. Just keep on searching for the truth with an open mind. I have nothing against the Muslim people. God bless them. The comment about Vatican II saying us Catholics and Muslims worship the same God needs some clarification. We (Catholics) do not worship there God but they worship our God, however as the Catechism reminds us Quote 843 The Catholic Church recognizes in other religions that search, among shadows and images, for the God who is unknown yet near since he gives life and breath and all things and wants all men to be saved. Thus, the Church considers all goodness and truth found in these religions as "a preparation for the Gospel and given by him who enlightens all men that they may at length have life."332 844 In their religious behavior, however, men also display the limits and errors that disfigure the image of God in them: Very often, deceived by the Evil One, men have become vain in their reasonings, and have exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and served the creature rather than the Creator. Or else, living and dying in this world without God, they are exposed to ultimate despair.333 845 To reunite all his children, scattered and led astray by sin, the Father willed to call the whole of humanity together into his Son's Church. the Church is the place where humanity must rediscover its unity and salvation. the Church is "the world reconciled." She is that bark which "in the full sail of the Lord's cross, by the breath of the Holy Spirit, navigates safely in this world." According to another image dear to the Church Fathers, she is prefigured by Noah's ark, which alone saves from the flood

Jesus referred to Himself as "I AM" in John's Gospel. Pretty explicit...
CatherineM
My Mother would have said that you're thinking too much. Sometimes we have to step back from trying to engage deep theological understandings and just be present. That means just praying or doing daily mass or adoration instead of looking for complex issues to obsess on.
