This is very interesting. The whole idea of connecting the cross/crucifixion to your own history. Here he sees a connection with the lynching tree. I would like to ask some questions to the people here who studied philosphy/theology. This means that personal views of people are of no interest to me. I would just like to know more about the catholic views on this.

1. This man is what some people refer to as an "black protestant". Could it be that what he says here is very much filled with "black protestant" theology? I mean, would the catholic tradition see this a bit different or is the catholic view kind of the same as this man's view of this subject?

2. If there is such a thing as "black protestantism" is there something like "black catholicism" (the catholic version of "black protestantism")?

3. He mentioned Beyond tragedy by Reinhold Niebuhr. Is that book wirtten with a philosohy/theology that is a bit different from the cathoic philosophy/theology? and if so, could you point out something to me as examples of that? I have not yet read the book but I might do it.

Hi!

Here's the video: The Cross and the Lynching Tree (James Hal Cone and Bill Moyers)

Nihil Obstat

The Holy Ghost Fathers enjoyed spectacular success in French west Africa in the early to mid 20th century. Many vocations and baptisms. Their missionaries found great faith there.

There is a Black Catholic Congress organization in the United States that was started in the late 1800s I believe.  And there is a fraternal organization called the Knights of Peter Claver.

I haven't watched the video in its entirety yet.

Well. I don't know what to say to this except that Joel Osteen is what some people refer to as a "white protestant". One person is black and a protestant and the other person is white and a protestant.  Beyond that I do not know if either term conveys much useful information.

What is your definition of "black protestant theology"? I am not sure exactly what it is you are referring to. Is there also a "white protestant theology" and a "Latino protestant theology"?

I doubt that anyone here is going to watch a 45 minute video just to answer your question.  Can you summarize the content of the video, and what you want to know about it?

Again, what is "black protestantism"?  As for "black Catholicism" - I have never heard of such a thing and I quite frequently attend St. Augustine here in DC - the mother Church of African American Catholics.

Is there such a thing as "white Catholicsm" or is that what you would refer to as simply "Catholicsm"?

At St. Augustine the liturgy has been adapted to cultural norms that are more common among African Americans, just as the liturgy at some churches has been adapted to cultural norms that are more common among Europeans, and just as the liturgy at some churches has been adapted to cultural norms that are more common among Hispanics.

I am not quite sure what you are getting at, to be honest.

Dunno. I have not read it either. Please let us know what it is about if you do.

Tab'le De'Bah-Rye

Some think it is a skin issue black, white and brown, catholic, protestant, athiest, like skin color does something but it is actually a sin issue. God is color blind, you better believe that without voting for a one world government, lol. An amazing thing happened to my parish recently, someone donated the parish an icon of an aboriginal mary with baby Jesus, so amesome thank you LORD JESUS we love you so much.

God iz Good. :)
