It doesn't matter what you wear to church in the case that you have what you have. However, you should be mindful of several different things.

1) How you dress is an expression of yourself. So please be midful that when you dress immodestly, or even "casual" you are saying, this is how I view Jesus (as in you don't care=immodest, or Jesus is my pal=casual). Mass has turned into a feel good entertainment time in a lot of places.

2) We don't cover our bodies because we are ashamed, we cover our bodies because we respect and honor the dignity we have. Our bodies are meant for holiness and sanctity, let's express that. Leave the fashion outside the Church.

Eveyone should be treated with sincerity, respect and care. If you are concerned with someone, lovingly approach them.

Also, I praise God for our Fathers that have encouraged and lead the flock. I went to visit the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrment in Hanceville Alabama (close to EWTN). There was a sign outside the Shrine that read "please do not wear tank tops, sleeveless shirts, or shorts to the Shrine." A beautiful request for a beautiful Shrine.

Finally, it kills me, I mean KILLS me when I go to a wedding and the Bride wears a sleeveless, spaghetti strap, or strapless dress.

I just don't see how ppl get around even outside of church in super short, super tight clothing. In comparison to what the rest of sociery has to offer, we seem a pretty conservative family when it comes to clothing...even Mum, fashion-conscious as she is, goes on about how immodestly people dress these days. I wear nothing shorter than a tank top and a denim skirt stopping right above the knees, and that's when it's so hot and so humid that you could work up a sweat just by sitting down and doing nothing, and the mere thought of someone wearing anything longer or thicker could provoke heatstroke.

CreepyCrawler

there are cathedrals in europe where if you aren't dressed appropriately, you can't get in, even if you're just a tourist.

There are Cathedrals in the US with the same standards, such as the one in DC, the Bascilica of the Immaculate Conception.

Ash Wednesday

I will also add that what you wear DOES affect your conduct and state of mind.

I can't stand a lot of wedding dresses they have now. I want one that isn't sleeveless, and 90% of them are!!!

I mean aside from it being a Catholic wedding, I have arms like an East German javelin thrower, so I ain't down with showing them off!

How so? I can't really see how it does, I mean unless it makes you uncomfartable or distracted from what is happening.

Ash Wednesday

A soldier will act like a completely different person in uniform. As does a policeman.

I wear a dobok when I train in martial arts and enter the dojang, and it puts me in a different frame of mind where I am in a place of training.

You don't dress like you are going to the gym if you're going to have dinner with the Queen of England, do you?

Clothing sets the tone of an event. I don't think one has to dress so uncomfortably that it distracts them from Mass. But they need to dress FOR Mass, that puts them in the frame of mind that this is important.

I would live and die in a hockey jersey, flip flops, and sweats if I could. But at mass I generally go dressy-casual and wear something nice like I would wear at work.

A priest at a church my family and I used to go to said that you shouldn't come to mass dressed like you're going to a picnic.

Ash Wednesday

It's like monks and priests wearing robes and habits. It sets them apart and in another frame of mind.

Haha. XD Whenever there's a special on some place in Europe, and they go to the beach, there's always a ton of large, hairy men in speedos.
