This Sunday's Inappropriate Dressing

explain that it's distracting to many people, and by dressing immdoestly they are unconciously taking other people's minds off God. All this can easily be solved by wearing jeans and a tshirt or sweater and just being comfortable :D

yeah, it's hard to tell people they're dressing immodestly, esp. if they're the young moms wearing the latest fashions. i go to a parish that is very wealthy and a lot of what people wear is right off the designer rack, but a lot of it is immodest and even i get distracted thinking, "wow, i can't believe she's wearing that to church!" and how my mom would kill me if i wore that but the immodest lady IS a mom -- it bugs me. anyway, i wish people would stop trying to be attractive for mass -- what's the point, God only sees your heart, right?

u know ur skirt is 2 short when you cant even bow when crossing the altar, instead you have to bend you knee's like the girls do when like accepting awards or watever after performances. and also when you cant kneel in front of Jesus >:o wats wrong with our generation!!

You people would have a heart attack attending a Mass here in Florida.

Very casual is normal wear everywhere. Not wearing a bathing suit top is dressed up for most occasions. People dress casually here at mass, but it does get excessive. Every few months, the youth leader and/or priest will say something and something will get written up in the Bulletin. Most people don't take it as immodest, it's casual wear. Personally, I don't ever wear shorts to Mass, but many, many men and guys do. I don't wear t-shirts either, but many do. A man came to mass tonight with a blue bathing suit, a sleeveless t-shirt, and flip flops on. That's just too casual for an adult to wear.

The priests can only do so much. If the parents are teaching their kids that short skirts and cut-offs are appropriate, the priest is dismissed as being an old fuddy-duddy.

I wear shorts and t shirts during the summer and pants and sweaters in the fall and winter. In the spring I go nude. JK!

I wear shorts and t shirts for one big reason. I care about if I listen or not. I overheat really fast and even in A/Ced buildings in the summer pants are out of the question. I get sooo hot. And when I get hot I will most likly stop fully listening and retain the Mass.

Note by shorts I mean to the knees, not higher no longer. And they are nicer shorts, not all ripped and stained and stuff like some are. And shirt means one that when I genuflut it my shirt doesn't raise to expose flesh.

I think this might bug Father. But I don't own causal dress cloths and I care more about what happens during the Mass than what I am wearing.

Moreover, Jesus is the same Jesus recived by someone is "light" clothes as it is too someone in a tux. The reason for the Mass is the Eurachist. Not fashion.

As to judeing people I had issues with that before. I confessed it. Father told me, "It is not a sin to say something like 'Hitler killed, thereby sinning, many Jews,' but it is a sin to say something like 'Hilter was 100% bad and had nothing redeeming.'" But saying Miss I-Need-More-Clothes dressed immodestly is stating some is wrong or inapporite. Thus are we sinning or judging?

St. Mary's Byron winners were the normal. Super tight jeans and super tight tee shirts. Thankfully, I am beinging to be able to ignore them.

UGH!! Down here in Houston it is REALLY bad in the Summer bacause it is not only hot but HUMID!!!!!!!!!! ::BLAH::

I'm not sure if this is... I don't know..... but I bet I can beat ya'lls... I'm going to far...... Anyway... tube top with a belt!! Belt=those itty-bitty skirts.... about the size of a belt!!

An interesting thing is that at a church down here (one of the MANY) the priest will offer clothes to the person (he has a sign on the doors) and he will deny them the Eucharist because they are not dressed appropriatly enough to recieve Christ into their bodies!!

i don't think casual dressing is bad, it's immodest clothing that is bad. maybe i'm old-fashioned, but i always thought that immodesty was a sin and it's not good to show skin, esp. in church.

I always dress up at least a little more than I would on a normal day, though its true that The Eucharist is the reason for the Mass, and not what you are wearing, I find that dressing up a little helps me remember the respect I owe to God in His presense.

My dad told me when I was younger to dress for Mass like I would for a wedding, since at Holy Mass we are present at the "banquet of Christ"! That's a good thing to keep in mind when you are getting ready for Church. How hard can it be to look nice for one hour? Right now, clothing isn't *too* bad at Mass since I'm a northerner and the temperature was in the 70s today.

I respect the Eucharist as much as wearing rags as I would in a suit. Your clothing is earthly and doesn't express anything really. Who says a suit is more formal than a bathing suit? I dress modest, not formal. And I own no jeans and can't get out of the house in pants (mum stops me or I would die of the heat).

About the priest denying the Eucharist if they are not dress apportiably. That brothers me a bit. It is NOT about what the person is wearing, it is about what is on and in their soul and mind.

I am a Northerner too. Thick blood. I start the AC in March. I start shorts in late Febuary. I wear them till Nov. So 70s is still a bit too warm for me. LOL!

I wear the same black capris to every Mass ('cept at school when I'm in my schoolgirl outfit... modest schoolgirl, mind you ) and one of my Catholic t-shirts.

Hmm... I see a lot of immodest dress around here. I try not to distract myself and judge the immodest girls... I instead mumble "Keep your modesty and God Bless You" to any girls in modest clothing walking by. But my friend Dakota's sister takes the cake... she wore this teeny brown skirt to Mass once to the point where my mum (who can be somewhat revealing at times herself) said, "If you ever wear a skirt that short to church, I'll kill you." I said, "If I wear a skirt that short ever, I want you to kill me." ;)

Yeah, I kinda agree. I mean, of course you should dress modestly, but you can't deny people communion like that on account of their clothes.

There's a priest at a nearby parish (he's wonderful, very orthodox and great), but sometimes he expects too much. He gets really upset when people wear shorts to Mass. Once we went to a daily Mass -- we had been away for the day and didn't have time to drive home and change our clothes. We weren't immodest or anything. The shorts weren't "short shorts." It kind of put us in a difficult position. Should we not go to Mass because we're in shorts and don't have time to change? I mean, you should always try to dress up a little for mass, not look like a slob, but in that situation, is it really fair to pressure people to not go to mass on account of how they're dressed?

Just a thought.
