CountrySteve21
Do you have a favorite Icon you'd like to share and why? This is an icon of the Holy Trinity. Its one of my favorites because its, in a sense, a summary of the whole Catholic faith; which is to have Fellowship with the All Holy God. Revelation 3: 20 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,[then] I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with me. "
Luigi
I HATE icons. I know they have a long and glorious history in the Eastern churches, but they feel like a fashion statement by the trend setters in the Roman church - "We're bored the glorious artwork created in our own churches, we want some new flavor (like blue M&M's or Diet Caffeine Free Lime Coke), we want to show the stodgy old traditional blue-haired ladies that we're hip and cool while they cling to their boring old Sacred Hearts and Last Suppers." I'll take Fra Angelico any day and you can keep your icons.

I can't listen to the St. Matthew Passion because Bach was Lutheran? I gotta be like "Nah baby. Put that one of the greatest musical works of all time back on shelf. Only the Gregorian Chant for me." ? You can appreciate both I think. Appreciating one does not take away from the other.

I also enjoy Our Lady of Częstochowa and some icons of the Holy Family. I do think, however, that sometimes the meaning of icons has really become lost. I become uncomfortable seeing icons displayed in art galleries. They are such a specific form of expression and the way in which they are written has such a deep meaning which isn't always picked up.
