OnlySunshine
I called my doctor this afternoon to see if the results of my gallbladder scan on Monday were in and the nurse looked them up on the computer. I was very frustrated with the results - 50% ejection fraction (normal) and no evidence of duct narrowing or widening. Basically, everything looked normal. This should be good news, but it's not for me because I still don't have a definitive answer. I had a minor meltdown in the office (with the door closed, of course) and told the nurse on the phone that I was frustrated because I've spent over $1,000 on tests and consults and no one can figure out why I'm having upper abdominal pain. She offered to get me in to see the doctor sooner (my appointment was scheduled for Tuesday) and said she could fit me in tomorrow morning before my doctor goes to the hospital for consults. I had to check with my boss first who agreed that I could go to the appointment sooner. I'm scheduled for 9am. I've been researching to see if having gallbladder disease in spite of normal test results happens, and everything I looked up suggests "acalculous gallbladder disease" because I am having classic gallbladder symptoms - pain in right upper quadrant that radiates to the back, nausea, pain that worsens with fatty meals, etc. My doctor was convinced it was my gallbladder, too. I'm hoping that he doesn't say that he doesn't know what my problems are. My family has a history of gallbladder disease - paternal and maternal. I also have several of the risk factors - fair-skinned, overweight, female. Please say some prayers that my doctor will still work with me to figure out what the next step is. He already suggested sending me to a surgeon after my endoscopy last Monday, so I hope that he still will. Several of the research articles say that pain can occur in spite of "normal" results and that a cholecystectomy relieves symptoms in over 90% of people.
