CatherineM
Let's assume that there is a war on the family in the West the question is Why? If our economy is consumer driven, and most purchases are by younger people, then wouldn't large families be a good thing? What do you think is behind the war, if you believe it is happening. Gabriela
Selfishness. Consumerism is driven fundamentally by selfishness, not young people. People can be driven by selfishness at any age. It's just the younger ones are more prone to it, cuz it's all they've ever known and they haven't questioned it much yet. On a culture-wide level: Rampant, excessive, out-of-control individualism. truthfinder
Plus, I'm imagining that most of the goods that single people buy are more disposable/luxury, etc with high markups and the constant need for the newer, better product. Not the staples that larger families might be buying.
Guest
I think that there is a war on the family and driven by Satan for obvious reasons. In the doctrine of Divine Providence (see CCC Paragraph 324) God might permit (not directly will) an evil either major or the most minor to exist because He can bring good out of it. In the Book of Job in the opening paragraphs, Satan must ask God's Permission before that thing is able to attack Job. I think the good that is immediately apparent is the (at last) very strong, very loud and insistent quite public emphasis the Church as hierarchy is putting on families and related matters - of the family's vital importance to The Church including their "essential and irreplaceable role" (Christifideles Laici - Vocation & Mission of Lay Faithful) in secular life in the temporal sphere by which all laity, including the family, are characterised. Undoubtedly, the family is also a rich soil and seeding ground for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life, loyal service to The Church in many ways, as well as holiness in all vocations and states of life. 6 hours ago, Josh said: Satan Wanted to give you a prop, Josh - but none left again.
