How do we promote young saints in a way teens will want to read/watch?

Saint Germaine Cousin – Neglected and abused by her family, Saint Germaine was a shepherdess who led a life of much suffering. She frequented the sacraments and prayed the Rosary regularly. She died at age 22. Particularly beloved in France, her feast day is June 15.

She's such a great friend in heaven, I can't recommend her enough ! She'll answer your prayers !

Yes, stories that don't make it seem like the saints fell out of heaven then floated right back up.

Movies can be good too - but they must be non-cheesy.

St. Maria Goretti.

I'll be honest, she often doesn't appeal to me. However, it isn't her necessarily, but how others speak of her.

I've never heard anything bad about her. I love her

I've not heard bad things about her, it's that some speak only of how she died instead of losing her purity, when she wouldn't have lost her purity anyway because she wasn't consenting to rape. She is a Saint not because she wasn't raped, but because she loved her attacker so much as to beg him not to endanger his soul and then forgave him. But some only focus on the not raped part. So my issue isn't with her, but in how she is spoken of. And maybe I just have issues.

To add to what I said, St Maria Goretti did indeed value her purity a lot, and her sainthood comes from that. But some make it sound like it's better to die than be raped, which isn't the case. She would've been a saint even if he hadn't killed her for her saying not to do this, that it was a sin.

I was really fortunate to be able to visit her when she was touring the U.S. The priest who accompanied her, telling her story, was by far the best Saint story teller I've ever heard. He loved her so much, and cared for every detail of her story. He focused very much on her concern for his soul, and then on Alessandro's conversion. It was LOVELY.

I wish all teens could have heard HIM speak.

I think I'm only feeling rage-y because I just read something emphasizing only that she kept herself from rape because she valued her purity, without mentioning her great love for Alessandro and the state of his soul. I've heard good talks about her, too.

So great that you got  to see her when she was touring the US!

That's one reason why I love her, we had the honor of having her tour at my Parish. It was such a blessing

I liked this post about her. "

The purest One who ever lived was abused and shamed more than anyone else. If you choose to avoid sin yourself, and if you value your enemy’s soul above your own life; if you give your life as an offering for sin, whatever form that offering may take in your own vocation, then you are pure indeed.

So I guess it’s true after all. Maria Goretti died rather than give up her purity. But that had nothing to do with whether she was raped at knifepoint or died resisting rape. It doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that she died, physically still a virgin. Not really. She was pure of intention and died in the arms of Christ. Christ will raise her up on the last day"

Totes. I feel you on this. I think I got the same talk over and over again growing up. [insert roll eye emoji here]
