Orlando Shooting

Josh,

I'll love in the life I live.   Sad that you think hate will earn you love in an imaginary next life.

I think this thread would be a good place to discuss the inspiring outreach toward the victims and their families.  I know many people lined up outside of the blood bank to donate blood and the local chick-Fil-a opened on that Sunday and made a bunch of chicken sandwiches and iced tea to hand out for free to those people.  Jet blue offered free flights for the families of the victims to go to Orlando.  And I know that there was a gofundme which when I checked had raised about $2.5 million to help with funeral costs and medical bills.

All of this coupled with sincere prayer has had and will continue to have a big impact so think of other ways you can help!

I can't give blood. My body is too sick, and my blood is full of meds (for example, my diabetes meds) that can interfere with the safety of administering anesthesia. (I learned this when I had surgery 2 summers ago and had to go off virtually all my meds for a time before having general anthesia--some meds for a few days, others for a couple of weeks.) I'm sticking to praying.

My first thought was to be thankful that my ex-husband wasn't in Orlando. (But, I checked the guest list just to be sure.) My family doesn't understand why I don't hate my ex. I may have stopped loving him like a husband, but I've never stopped wishing the best for him. I may be straight, but homosexuality is a VERY personal issue for me. After all these years I'm still grappling with the issues and ramifications.

I'm still learning how to love someone when you wish they weren't homosexual. I expect to struggle with this for the rest of my life. However, the struggle to understand how Jesus loved, and to emulate him, is worth the effort.

Unfortunately the full quote is just as bad. It's equally obnoxious the way some Christians are claiming this episode as an example of Christian persecution. A few dozen people were mowed down but because of mean Facebook comments, the Christians are the ones being persecuted etc. But people like Bishop Lynch make me gag. In his blogpost he even refers to our "founding parents" againgag me with a spoon. If he wants to be a feminist he could start by offering paid maternity leave to church employees. Ooooo but that would actually cost him something.

I know Bushop Lynch and generally like him.  A number of my family either are retired or working for the Diocese. I don't know about paid maternal leave, I'll have to ask.

His blogpost on Orlando, bishopsblog.dos.org  is a disgusting finger pointing rant and is hypocritical.  (Something that is sadly, a habit of Bob's)

I agree, as a nation, we are in serious trouble, for more than just gay marriage.

Gay marriage is right up there with abortion. It's one of the four sins that cries out to Heaven for vengeance and justice. I find it really shameful you downplay it as just another thing. That couldn't be farther from the truth. It's like this deceptive meme going around portraying homosexual acts as just another sin.

Josh.

I will pray for you. I will not, however engage with you any further in this discussion.  The hatred I see coming from you scares me.

May God grant you peace.

What hatred? Because I don't believe in gay marriage and posted Scriptures from Leviticus? Because I don't accept Islam and think it's a false religion and post about all the Muslim murders going on during Ramadan? That's hate? Yeah bury your head in the sand and convince yourself this has nothing to do with Satan and false religion. It's just some guy with a mental illness. What ever makes you feel better. Have you heard the things he told the authorities on the phone while committing the murders? And do you see how Satan Is going to get behind the homosexual movement even more furiously now? It's about to get crazy. But yeah I'm just full of hate and Satan doesn't even exist. And Scripture really isn't true "like that." Homosexual acts aren't really something that cry out to the Heavens for vengeance and justice.

Omar was a mentally sick individual that acted out in hate and mental illness.  It wasn't the fault of Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Pagans, atheists,  Middle Eastern Arabics, America, Europeeans, conservatives, liberals, gay, straight, transgender, celibate, pro-gun, anti-gun, omnivores, or vegans.

I agree fully that the killer was responsible for his own actions.  However, it's also undeniable (all pc nonsense to the contrary) that he was an adherent to a radical Islamist ideology, and he had pledged adherence to ISIS.  (Whether he was actually personally contacted or ordered by ISIS leaders or members is beside the point here; ISIS and similar Islamist groups recruit heavily over the internet, and encourage people to join their cause and engage in such "lone wolf" acts of murderous jihad - as they have done around the the world.)

My point being that, without personally excusing the killer in any way, radical Islam was in fact at least an important motivator, and those that promote radical jihadist Islam share in the blame.

It's the same as if some neo-Nazis were to put up a website promoting their twisted ideology and encouraging people to kill Jews.  If some hateful soul were to become a fan of the site and follow its advice, shooting up a synagogue while screaming "Heil Hitler!", those who put up the website would bear some moral responsibility, and it would be absurd to insist the crime had nothing whatever to do with Nazism.

And, before I'm accused of spewing anti-Muslim hatred, note I said "radical Islam," not "all Muslims," was to blame.  This isn't about hatred or politics, but about calling a spade a spade and speaking the obvious, if politically-incorrect, truth.  It's time more people took their heads out of the sand, and recognize and call the enemy for what it is (even if our Dear Leader and other spineless, dishonest politicians cannot).  Denial of reality is helping no one but the terrorists.

Omar's acts represent Islam as accurately as an IRA Bomber represents Catholicism. It's not the religions, friend.

“I pledge my alliance to (ISIS leader) abu bakr al Baghdadi..may Allah accept me,” Mateen wrote in one post early Sunday morning. “The real muslims will never accept the filthy ways of the west” …“You kill innocent women and children by doing us airstrikes..now taste the Islamic state vengeance.”  -

Yeah I admit I have anger and resentment towards a lot of the gay community. They have now made "same sex marriage" legal and this will affect everyone. God is not mocked. We as a nation will be punished. Like the previous meme I posted said "Take Cover!" Also to those who lost their lives I'm saddened and I pray for them and their families. What is even sadder is the very real/likely possibility they are in hell for eternity separated from God. Although I hope they made it to Purgatory.

Josh, your continued vitriol against LGBT people and Islam in direct defiance of my very clear wishes is far beyond tiresome. I will say it again: If you want to make a thread on the sinfulness of same-sex actions and the errors of Islam, make your own thread. Stop. Hijacking. Mine. This is not what my thread is for, and I am very tired of you tainting this thread's purpose. Please do not post on this thread again. Your posts are inappropriate, hurtful to some here, and completely off-topic. I'm going to ask a moderator to clean the thread up if possible.

The defenseless victims  of the massacre  are not to blame

Some of the commentary in this thread gives sympathy for the devil who  did all the killing .

 Sympathy  for the Devil
Lyrics
Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul to waste
And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made beaver dam sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game
I stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank
Held a general's rank
When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank
meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
Ah, what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
(Woo woo, woo woo)
I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For…

I'd post a link, but at this point I don't see how anyone wouldn't know what happened in the early hours of this morning.

This shooting was bad enough, but hearing the personal accounts is even worse. My heart really breaks for all the victims and their loved ones. I have a soft spot in my heart for the LGBT community, and that this happened specifically because of hatred towards these people is simply beyond my ability to understand. Despite any sin, these are precious children in the eyes of the Father, and they deserve nothing less than our wholehearted love and understanding. I've seen disgusting comments from several Catholics who have stated very bigoted things against the victims, and this is incredibly disappointing to me, as I would have hoped a Catholic rooted in the Faith would know better.

On a related note, the hospital working on the wounded is in dire need of blood, and I've been told it is possible to donate blood and have it sent there if you live out-of-State. If anyone knows specifically how to do this, I would really appreciate it. Hearing about these tragedies and praying for victims sometimes feels insufficient, and I'd love to help in a practical way if possible. I'll probably pass out because my body smells of elderberries at handling change, but that's something I'm willing to offer up.

Thank you for starting this thread! My friend had 3 of her close friends at Pulse. She lost two and one is recovering in the hospital. Some of the comments I have read seriously make me sick and sad. WE all have to remember that this could have been your neighbor, child, family member, your grandchildren or your great grandchildren. Can we just be more kind to one another and spread more love.

Thank you. We must remember we are all sons and daughters of the Father, and we are even more closely interlinked when we share in baptism (and as many of the victims were Cuban, they were very likely Catholic.) Our brothers and sisters were gunned down in a fit of hatred and bigotry, and we should all feel their loss and weep, rather than catechizing the dead and pointing fingers.

Would it be any less horrific if they were Asian Buddhists?  Although a"gay" bar, Pulse was known for Latino music and dancing.  Many attendees weren't gay, and were there simply for the music, dancing, and fun. Some victims were parents. One was a mom, there with her child who loved salsa dancing.

They all are human.
