FilleDeStFrancois
Should you genuflect or make the sign of the cross when driving by/walking by an Adoration Chapel? I was at a wedding last weekend and the church was next door to an Adoration Chapel. I had to walk in front of the chapel to get to the church. Should I have done something like make the sign of the cross? THANKS!
truthfinder
There is a custom of making the sign of the cross when passing a Catholic Church. You would only genuflect if you actually went inside. But it's custom, not a rule.
DominicanHeart
I think it's very important to show respect whether or not you have time to go in. However, there is an entrance to the chapel in our Church and every time one of our Priests walks by it, if the door is a little tiny bit opened, he slams it. He doesn't close it quietly. Every time. It bothers all of the adorers in the chapel.

FilleDeStFrancois
I always make the sign of the cross as I'm driving by a church, but in this instance, I was walking by an adoration chapel on my way to Mass... Looks like there's nothing set in stone, just tradition. Thanks, y'all!

It's just difficult because some people want to make a quick visit and go back into the Church for Mass and it doesn't open from inside the Chapel so we have to go out the other door and go around to come back in. WhiteLily
It is good practice to try to show some sort of reverence to the Blessed Sacrament, whether it be genuflecting, slight bow, making the Sign of the Cross, or just a gentle gaze. However, don't beat yourself up over it. If it is bothering your conscience, bring it up in your next confession and ask the priest if what you did was wrong, if you haven't already. Jesus understands when we make a mistake. Bring it to Him and try to resolve to show some sign of adoration when you pass the Blessed Sacrament whether in exposed in the monstrance or in the Tabernacle. God bless you. Spem in alium
In my convent, our chapel is accessed through the entry hallway and the door is almost always open. We bow/genuflect as we pass.
