Building a Monastery for the Little Sisters of the Lamb

Beautiful and needed charism and mission:

The Diocese of Lyon has offered the sisters a piece of land in the center of the city for a new monastery. There will be three parts: a chapel at the center of the monastery, open to everyone; a community house, with an “open table” refectory, and a place to welcome people in need; and the cloister, with twelve cells, an oratory, and a library for prayer and study in solitude for the sisters. - See more at: http://aleteia.org/2016/06/07/watch-building-a-monastery-for-the-little-sisters-of-the-lamb/#sthash.3lBU5Bc6.dpuf

Yes, that is correct. They are part of the Dominican family and beg daily. But they don't live their lives quite like the friars do so it is more possible. The friars stopped because they grew so quickly that begging became a strain on the people of the town and also took them away from their preaching and teaching. The friars still beg but in a different way.

The nuns didn't in the beginning but we are actually quite mendicant.

When my parents visited me in Rome in 2014, we saw a group of these Sisters around in several different places. My dad asked me who they were, but at the time I didn't know, so Dad nicknamed them "the dungaree nuns." :) Good to know their actual story now!

It could have also been the Community of Jerusalem sisters or even the Jesu Communio sisters from Spain who have, well, not the most attractive habit! Iesu%2BCommunio%2B(3)a.jpg

This kind of blue dress is very popular in France, in new communities :

I remember once asking "I saw a sister with a blue dress and scapular and a white veil, you know what order it is ?" and I received 6 different answers (other little diocesan communities have this kind of dress). However the Little Sisters of the Lamb have a blue veil !

About Iesu Communio, I like their habit, but it must be so hot in summer !

The nuns we saw in Rome were definitely the Little Sisters of the Lamb---I just didn't know their name at the time.

We should start another thread titled "Dungaree nuns"! :)

There used to be a small group of Franciscan Friars a few miles from my house (the community has since folded, which is too bad but it happens sometimes).  I had heard them described as "the powder blue monks" which I thought sounded bizarre indeed.  Franciscan habits are overwhelmingly brown.  Occasionally grey.  Powder blue?  I'll believe that when I see it.

Then I saw one of them and their habits were light blue denim.  Oh!  That actually makes a lot of sense, as a simple inexpensive hardwearing working-class fabric.

Some congregations still have many vocations in Spain !
Iesu Communio, of course, but also las hermanas de la cruz http://www.hermanasdelacruz.org/ , las hermanitas de los ancianos desemparados http://www.hermanitas.net/ , las hijas de santa maria del sagrado corazon http://www.hsmcj.org/ , la compania del salvador : http://ciasalvador.org/ I'm French and Catalan, and I have a family member in Spain who is interested in religious life. She was able to visit some of these institute. She was too old for the Hijas de Santa Maria, but she became very close to Iesu Communio. This summer, she's going to visit the Motherhouse of the Little Sisters of the Lamb, since I don't live very far away.

I live in Navarra.

You have listed  great religious congregations :bravo:, but they have not so many vocations, they are also declining, except las Hijas de Santamaría del Corazón de Jesús and Iesu Communio that continue to grow. In Spain have fallen sharply vocations and it shows even in the best congregations.  I don't know what kind of apostolate seeks your family member, but I think it can fit very well with these congregations of Spain, apostolate of health
