I don't believe computer programs can have actual consciousness, but that's a philosophical bias on my part.

The concept makes for fun sci-fi, though.

I'd still find this idea more plausible than the notion that the universe simply randomly farted itself into existence out of nothing.

My 6 year old daughter thought it was implausible that the playground across the street wasn't built just for her.  What were the odds that they randomly built it months after we moved there, instead of a boring library as the City's Coming Soon sign read.     

There are no coincidences and every action has intent.

Whether it was built specifically for your daughter or not, the construction of the playground was in fact the result of intelligent design.  (A shockingly fundamentalist notion, I know.)
