xSilverPhinx
...the universe were a computer simulation and "God", the programmer? The idea might seemed far fetched but think about it. As we humans come closer and closer to developing supercomputers that could possibly create an entire universe, we should contend with the possibility that some advanced civilization has already done this, and that we are living in such a universe. All these fine-tuning arguments, intelligent design (though whether it is indeed intelligent is highly debatable) and a creator or creators would be compatible with this view. Sure it doesn't answer the question "but then how did the creator/programmer come to be?" but this is irrelevant in this scenario. Thoughts? xSilverPhinx
That's just a movie, though a good one in my book.
Credo in Deum
Wait, we have to create a super intelligent machine in order to create a universe? I thought these things just spontaneously happened? What gives?

What if you're right about this universe being created but are wrong on the character of its creator?

However, as long as I've spent my life in the persuit of truth, no matter the inconvenience, then I'm content. As for there being a different creator than the Holy Trinity, I think those chances are slim to none.
dUSt
What if we are just a 5th grade science project for a super intelligent being. Like, not even an award winning science project. Just one that ends up getting a participation ribbon.

Ice_nine
what if you're dreaming and I don't exist except solely as a fiure of your imagination. Maybe you're in a coma and there's a bunch of docs trying to bring you back to life but you actually think you're aliiiiiiiive.

You might be a piece of code, I don't know. Bwahahaha.

Another, cooler computer simulation (and so on, ad infinitum). I don't believe computer programs can have actual consciousness, but that's a philosophical bias on my part. The concept makes for fun sci-fi, though. I'd still find this idea more plausible than the notion that the universe simply randomly farted itself into existence out of nothing.
