It's so nice to see them growing! ( not to take away from the new Novices, but Finally, the Chopped episode where Sr Alicia won!!) :hehe2:

So I take it that this community doesn't take religious names.  Because otherwise to have two Sister Lauras entering novitiate simultaneously seems poor planning.

And I'm not being critical, really I'm not.  My general opinion regarding religious names or forms of the habit or whatever is that communities can discern as they see fit without permission from me.  (I'm sure they're relieved! ;) )

I'm just curious.  As we hear so much that newer communities tend to be more attracted to more of the traditional trappings of religious life, most obviously habits and religious names, and their habit is definitely quite traditional so it is interesting to me that they seem to keep their baptismal names instead of taking new ones.

Seems a bit confusing.  Are they known as Laura One and Laura Two, or Big/Small, Tall/Short?

The idea of changing one's name at the time of investiture is one I can understand.  When I moved to Israel, I changed my family name to a Hebrew one -- and then, nine months later, changed it again when I married, which was sort of anticlimactic in a way.

Sister Leticia

These young women have surnames - they don't need to be one/two or big/little. I once lived with two Marys and they were Mary K and Mary T. And within the Province we have "duplicate" Marys, Margarets, Annes etc, and just use their surnames.

Admittedly, two Lauras is more unusual than two Marys or Annes, but it's a lovely problem to have!

I've known this community as they were just forming some years ago. They are as solid as can be. Father Bob, their director, is one of the original CFR friars. He is an excellent director with a wonderful sense of humor, which is necessary in religious life! I'm so thrilled to see they are steadily growing. God Bless them.

For anyone thinking about visiting-- go! They are a very joy-filled and healthy group.
