bkp
Hi, I'm Beth, and I'm new and very nervous posting here, but here goes: I am feeling a lot of curiosity / inquiry about the Church and a bit of a pull to go to Mass, but I'm nervous about going without anyone to talk to or sit next to. Do you think it would be received poorly / come across badly if I sent an email to the church I'd like to go to and asked if someone would meet me so I could introduce myself and maybe sit next to them? I'm asking this because I briefly visited a church and went to Mass several times many years ago (and it was magnificent!), and I had been in the RCIA class briefly, but I guess it wasn't the right time for me. I guess I wasn't ready. But I'm feeling some stirrings in my heart real recently and thought I would like to go back and see what things might grow to. A thousand apologies if this is the wrong place to ask / a horrible question. And if this isn't a good place to ask, I'd be grateful if you could point me to somewhere that might be better. Thanks for any help.
dUSt
Welcome to phatmass! I'm actually the opposite of you. I love going to mass all by myself. (Maybe because I have a hard time concentrating when with family and kids). When I can get to mass all by myself I cherish it because it's just me, with my full attention on God. I know that a few churches around me will actually invite everyone to stand up and introduce themselves to the people around them before mass begins. Just find someone to sit next to that looks nice! lol Or... be like me, and try to find a spot where nobody will bother you (usually, up front). franciscanheart
Or if you aren't as weird as dUSt (a suggestion I make with great affection for him), maybe try asking an usher to introduce you to someone? They tend to know people! To answer your question: No, I don't think it would be received poorly to call or email to ask that question. Go for it! Last but not least: Welcome to phatmass! Thanks for any help. If you are young a lot of dioceses have young adult events that you can probably check out and meet some folks at too.
