Courage chapters

Not The Philosopher

Yup. I'm familiar with my local courage chapter and have made friends/acquaintances through it. It's basically a support group, and so the core of the meetings is mainly about sharing what's going on in one's life (usually related to chastity/SSA stuff, but also one's spiritual life more generally). Honestly, I don't have the kind of personality that finds much catharsis in sharing, so I'm not sure it's quite for me. But I do appreciate how it allows people to be super honest about where they're at, and allowing them to take a load off their shoulders while adding some degree of accountability to their struggles. It doesn't deserve the scorn that's often heaped upon it.

I suspect that YMMV depending on your local members and chaplain, but I've always found attending meetings to be a very friendly experience.

It's a lot like AA or NA. Some are healthier than others. The group in St. Pete 15 years ago was a wash. The guy who ran it used it to find young guys to date. The group here was started by a good friend of ours 10 years ago when he was director of family life for the archdiocese. It got off to a good start, but has kind of fallen apart after he retired and his spot didn't get filled until recently. I had some contact with a group 20 years ago in Dallas, and they were a very strong, faithful group.

Those groups are usually worth what you are willing to put into it.
