Basilisa Marie
Hey friends. As if I don't have enough to do between RCIA and First Communion and parents already(!!!) asking me about Vacation Bible School, I've also decided to try to make my workparish's marriage prep smell of elderberries less. Right now it's basically the FOCCUS and an Engaged Encounter weekend retreat and a few meetings with our deacon and his wife. There's a place we refer people to for NFP. It's fine for now, as a baseline, but I'd really like it to grow. We haven't had a whole lot of couples doing marriage prep with us, but the numbers are growing and I'm looking to enhance our "core" curriculum as well as put together some extra resources geared toward couples with different kinds of backgrounds. The stuff that works for a super educated, super practicing Catholic couple might not be the same as for a couple with mixed backgrounds, vice versa, etc. Are there any resources that you married (or engaged!) people used that you found particularly helpful? Nihil Obstat
In my admittedly limited experience, there really is no substitute for face to face meetings with a very good priest. My priest meets with couples once a week every week for several months in very spiritually intensive sessions, with assigned homework, and he is more than willing to 'fail' someone if they are not taking it seriously. A big time commitment, yes. But I cannot imagine very many concerns that are more weighty, in the context of a priest's responsibilities.

We were actually married by Phatcatholic's brother, who also celebrated the traditional Mass for the first time just for us.

Maggyie
Be careful of the guy who wrote Holy Sex. He is huge into attachment parenting and just wrote an article about how formula feeding is sinful. Kind of an extremist. Holy Sex doesn't go there but in case the newlyweds google him...
Papist
Good News About Sex & Marriage by Christopher West. I believe there a study guide edition now. Three To Get Married by Fulton Sheen Marriage Is for Keeps: Foundations for Christian Marriage by John Kippley. This book also includes a nuptial mass planner. I love his definition of sacramental marriage. Was never pregnant long enough to read any of his baby stuff. Good to know.
