Will you translate it for us? If you don't need a literal translation, I just read through and compared this one, which in practical terms is close enough. http://lyricstranslate.com/en/dominique-dominique.html http://lyricstranslate.com/en/dominique-dominique.html#ixzz41WYGLGYL Dominique Versions: #1#2 Refrain : Dominique -inique -inique Went about simply, A poor singing traveller. On every road, in every place, He talks only of the Good Lord, He talks only of the Good Lord. At the time when Bad King John Was the sovereign of England Dominic, our father, Fought against the Albigensians. Refrain One day, a heretic, Through the brambles him leads, But our father Dominic, With his cheer him does convert. Refrain With neither camel nor haste, Throughout Europe he goes on foot Scandinavia and Provence In holy poverty. Refrain He sets alight at every school Girls and boys full of ardour, And to spread the Word The Dominican Friars he did found. Refrain For Dominique and his brothers Bread did become sparse When two angels did appear With them great chunks of eggy bread. Refrain Dominique sees in a dream Preachers all around the world Under the cloak of the Virgin In great number assembled. Refrain Dominique, my dear father, Keep us simple and jolly To call to our brothers The Way and the Truth1 Refrain
NadaTeTurbe
Oh this song ! I'm going to have it in my head for the whole week. The litteral name of the singer is "Sister Smile". She was a dominican nun, but she left the order and had a tragic end-of-life. Some little corrections to the translation : Dominique -inique -inique Went simply to God, poor and singing, On every road, in every place, He talks only of the Good Lord, He talks only of the Good Lord. At the time when Bad King John (we call him "Jean Sans Terre", John without Land, but I guess that Bad King John is his nickname here ?) Was the sovereign of England Dominic, our father, Fought against the Albigensians. One day, a heretic, leads him through the bramble But our father Dominic, Converts him with his joy. With neither camel nor carriage Throughout Europe he goes on foot In Scandinavia and Provence In holy poverty. He sets alight every school Girls and boys full of ardour, And to spread the Word He invented/created the Preacher Brothers For Dominique and his brothers Bread did become sparse When two angels did appear With them great chunks of eggy bread. Dominique sees in a dream Preachers all around the world Under the cloak of the Virgin In great number assembled. Dominique, my dear father, Keep us simple and jolly To announce to our brothers The Way and the Truth1
