I mean from a Catholic moral perspective. I'm talking about home intrusions. For concealed carry, I totally see why it would be (both morally and practically) better to carry hollow points. Such a bullet does not really exist. Bean bag rounds and rubber bullets work ok for crowd control and riot suppression, but they are still potentially lethal, and you cannot rely on them to actually stop a person. Tasers are the same. They have their place, but if you are in a home defense situation you cannot truly rely on them. They have issues of their own. To be as certain as possible that you will actually stop the person who needs to be stopped, the bullet generally has to do some pretty severe damage. You can look at smaller bullets, .22lr, .380acp, .38 special, but those are still absolutely lethal force, and they are still less effective at actually stopping the threat. Remember, the point is to stop, not to kill. The killing is incidental. Edited February 29, 2016 by Nihil Obstat
Credo in Deum
The only time you would be morally crossing the line would be if you used excessive force on the perpetrator, like shooting them after they no longer pose a threat.
