He was a very humble man who loved the Latin Mass. He said the Latin Mass the whole of his priestly life. Just because he struggled with latin doesn't mean he had hard feelings towards it.

Why is it controversial to think that a student at one time in his life or another greatly disliked the subject that gave him a lot of trouble and almost kept him away from his dream?

Latin is not a dogma of the faith. You're allowed to have hard feelings towards it and still be a Saint.

You've shown no real evidence that the Saint had hard feelings against Latin. I can find no such evidence. All you have is the the assumption that he did because he struggled with it. Many people struggle with the things they love most. And I'm just going to ignore the lame and predictable antilatin strawmen. Meh, or maybe not.. I never said Latin was dogamtic.

FIFY! Also, it was a joke. This is a really dumb argument.

I think we're missing a big point here and that is the Devil hates Latin because the Church (Therefore Christ) loves it and has made it her own.   Furthermore while Latin may not be dogmatic, the Church herself has done and written authoritatively on her love for Latin and has basically done everything it can do without making Latin a dogma.

Come on man clearly your joke had some real feelings behind it. Showing at very least it wasn't just a simple joke, for you it seems to be a joke with some unsubstantiated truth. But whatever.

Um, no. Why would I hate Latin?

Hmm. Jesus loves Latin more than He loves Aramaic or English? That is news to me. But hopefully both of us will one day have a chance to ask Him in person and settle the matter.

What happens if the Church decides to change her official language?

It seems like a rather weak argument. But I do not think that it is meant to be taken seriously. Is it really?

I think that link says that the exorcism rite is performed only in Latin. So one would naturally think that the devil would not want to hear Latin because during an exorcism Latin = exorcism. So either the devil does not like Latin or he does not like being exorcised. Or perhaps both.

The argument would be a bit stronger I think if during the exorcism the priest were to say "Dear Devil, would you prefer that I perform the exorcism in Latin or English?"  and the devil replied "Thank you for asking. I would much rather prefer that you perform the exorcism in English, because I really do hate the sound of Latin."

If that happens I will concede you the argument.

I didn't say you did hate it. I said that it's clear your Satan and Saint John Vianney comparison joke was a little bit more than just a joke. Otherwise you would have not continued to argue the Saint had hard feelings against Latin.

What if hell freezes over and  the devil offers free slay rides?
