I have no desire to see Deadpool. No idea what I'm doing on St. Valentine's Day

Same.  Plus Stan Lee creeps me out, and you just know he's going to pop up somewhere in that movie like a mole you can't whack.

This is random and I don't know if this is the place to ask it but I'm curious, has anyone on here tried (and maybe had some success) on the well known Catholic dating sites like Catholic Match or Ave Maria Singles. Please share your experiences and stories!

About 7 years ago I had a profile on Catholic Match and had a really positive experience.  Like many other people, I started by filling out a profile for free just to browse the site.  It was done mostly out of curiosity, but with some thought that I might actually pay to sign up and give it a go at some point.

A few months in to the experiment of mostly browsing profiles when bored, I received a message from a woman who seemed both beautiful and interesting.  So of course I had to read the message.  It was time.  I did pay/sign up and after months of messaging back and forth, I traveled across country, met her, and we ended up dating long distance for about a year and a half. It was a wonderful experience for me.  I am very grateful for having had it.  Nothing but good things to say about her and the way in which God provided that we meet.

There is a lot that could be said about online dating sites, Catholic and secular, but one thing that I do highly recommend, is that if you are going to do it...DO IT.  Embrace the process.  My experience of dating sites (Catholic Match & OkCupid) is that you get what you pay for.  Really.  When it is free and it doesn't cost you anything, you likely won't get much out of it either.  Maybe you'll get lucky and everything will work out magically, but most likely not.  Real relationships demand something of us.  We have to take risks, and be vulnerable (in safe ways and with someone we believe to be safe, of course) and one problem with online dating is that it is very easy to not do that, and treat people differently online than we would in person. Also, you have to know going into it that many of the users are more like casual onlookers who are secretly hoping "it works" without having to do anything to make it happen.

My approach really changed when I actually paid money, had some "skin in the game" so to speak, and became intentional and active in the process.   And it turned out to be fun and rewarding for me, a major, major blessing in many ways!

So there are both warnings and blessings, but I definitely think CatholicMatch was a good thing for me.

I really do think it can be a great experience and have recommended it to several friends.  It is not for everyone.  But it can definitely be a blessing.  Good luck with it!

Best response on the whole thread so far! Thank you!

Well, I probably won't be seeing it Valentine's Day, because I'm a (very) broke Catholic.

$5 Tuesdays at my theater here. :)  It helps!

I got a spam from CatholicMatch that said that the first 500 people to sign up before Valentine's day could use their service for $4 per month.  You have to buy the whole year at once, but if there are any spaces left, it might be worth a shot.
