Blizzard 2016 and Mass

My parish has cancelled this evening's confessions and Mass. They will be sending a follow-up E-mail concerning tomorrow morning's Mass times. There will hopefully be the 7PM and I pray I can make it. But I was shocked when I read the E-mail because I was under the impression that Mass is never cancelled for any reason, that the priest will still be there and say Mass even if it's just him. Thoughts?

If travel is dangerous you are released from your obligation to attend. The pastor has the authority to dispense the entire parish for serious reasons like emergency weather issues.

He will still say Mass that day in all likelihood, but if he cannot travel to the church itself or if he did dispense everyone from attendance, he would probably only celebrate privately, and probably at home if the church and rectory are deep separate.

Thanks! Apparently our Bishop informed all the parishes that, due to the state of emergency and severe storm, parishioners are dispensed from their obligation unless of course things improve tomorrow.

It's terrible but whenever I miss Mass (yes, for valid reason) I feel guilty.

Especially if one lives in an area with severe winters, this is bound to happen occasionally. I've found that setting aside the hour in which one would be hearing Mass for prayer, particularly for the prayer of that canonical hour, to be helpful. An act of spiritual communion, too would be helpful. Here's an example:

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.  I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.  Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

In Calgary there are usually one or two Sundays each winter during which I probably should stay home. Usually I go anyway... Had a hairy moment last year getting stuck on an icy hill next door to the church. Winter tires have made a big difference, and winter so far has been relatively mild this year. Although the worst blizzards and iced roads are usually in February and March.

I've gone to morning weekday Masses where I was so tired I didn't fully remember how I got to Mass. Is this ill-advised? :|

Apparently around 50 people made it last night to Mass. I'm hoping I'll get there tonight. The Church is right down the street though so I have no excuse

There are four guys who are roommates just a block from the church. They live closer than Father does. He gets on their case so much for being late for Mass and rarely showing up for weekday Masses :P No excuses for them.

Our rectory is right next door so our Priests will be there. They are so faithful.
