DameAgnes
I just saw on twitter that Heaton's sister is a member of the Dominican Sisters of St. Ceciliahttp://aleteia.org/blogs/deacon-greg-kandra/must-see-video-stephen-colbert-and-patricia-heaton-in-a-catholic-throwdown/ But is Colbert right here? Mary did not die? I thought she did but her body was assumed?
dominicansoul
That's interesting, because on an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond," Heaton's character's sister joins the convent! I wonder if they wrote that script just because it was happening in real life!

From what I know -which isnt much- you are free to believe she did die and you are free to believe she didn't die. Neither scenario changes that she was assumed body and soul into heaven. Personally I believe Mary would have imitated her son perfectly and would have given her death as an act of perfect love to God. Mary did not die? I thought she did but her body was assumed? I actually had a group debate on the subject, which was titled "Does the Church Teach Mary Died?" The answer: No. There are traditions for three scenarios: 1) Mary died and then was assumed body and soul into heaven, 2) Mary just went straight to heaven without dying, and 3) dormition, which though there are varying arguments about the specifics, essentially Mary went to sleep and woke up in heaven. All three are tenable in the Catholic faith and you are free to believe whatever you want. So long as you believe Mary went body and soul into heaven, it doesn't matter how you believe it happened.
