Alan Rickman is dead. This is just stupid. I didn't even believe the news until I saw the official BBC report.

This is by far the worst news of a dead actor I've ever seen. Rest in peace, Professor Snape.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may your perpetual light shine upon him.

RIP, professor :(  69 yo is not an age to die. The story of professor Snape is, by far, the most complex of Harry Potter. "Always..."

I was very pleased when I learned he remained faithful to one woman for fifty years. We need more people like him in secular culture.

Snape was always my favourite Harry Potter character, because he was so complex. I also loved Alan Rickman in Sense and Sensibility. And he was a patron of Saving Faces, which I think is really great. He'll definitely be missed.

So this is probably the hardest I've ever been hit with the death of a famous person. I absolutely love Rickman. When I was struggling in speech therapy and trying to find an acceptable way to speak slowly, Alan showed me the way to do it, and he showed me it's perfectly acceptable to speak slowly and deliberately. His personal character, morals, and kindness, on top of what he did for me personally, are why I will always deeply miss him.

I love the many roles Rickman played, but to me his work in Harry Potter will always stand out the most.

The reason I love his portrayal of Snape is because through details he masterfully fleshed out the humanity and complexity of his character. My favorite scene of his is actually one I've never seen anyone talk about, as it's a small detail that's incredibly easy to miss. It happens in The Prisoner of Azkaban when Lupin turns into a werewolf. Snape is unaware of the threat and runs over to Harry to line him out, but then he becomes alerted of the werewolf. Immediately, he throws his arms out to protect Harry, Hermione, and Ron, exposing himself and consequently getting clawed.

That's not in the book, but it is an amazing addition that feeds into the complexity and the true good of Severus Snape. Snape hated Harry. He hated his friends, and treated them horribly whenever he had the chance. But even in the very moment of fuming at them for attacking him not twenty minutes previously, he threw his arms out and sacrificed himself to save their lives.

Again, that is Rickman's own addition. It's a small detail, but it's the small details like that which really show an actor cares about the nature of his character, and it was the small details like that in all of his roles which showed why Alan was a truly exceptional actor.

That scene has always been one of my favourites because of that addition.

Not only was he a magnificent actor -- I've heard that as actors and famous people go, he was a good egg -- gracious, good to fans, kept his nose clean and was always a consummate professional with everyone he worked with.

I had the privelege of seeing Alan Rickman on stage a few years ago.

He had such stage presence the whole theatre was electrified - an amazing talent

A sad loss, and I will miss him :cry4:
