BRIEF UPDATE ON FR. JOHN CORAPI

NEWS:

Brief Update on Fr. John Corapi

By Matt Abbott

A bit of good news to share: A reliable source has informed me that Fr. John Corapi, a popular priest among orthodox Catholics who departed public life after a tumultuous period a few years ago, remains in the priesthood and is re-establishing his spiritual life.

There's no indication he'll be returning to public life anytime soon, if ever. However, it's nice to know that Fr. Corapi can at least be a quiet prayer warrior during this extremely difficult time in the Church and world.

I won't go into the particulars about what transpired in the past — it's water under the bridge — and I'm sure there's information on the Internet (some of it more reliable than other information, obviously) for those who may not be familiar with the situation. Plus, those who really didn't pay attention to him in the first place likely don't care one way or the other about his current status.

The bottom line is that we all are wounded and spiritually/morally fall often (I know do!). We just have to try our best to keep moving forward in faith in this "valley of tears." A very difficult task, I must say. That doesn't mean condoning moral corruption or remaining silent about it, but we all need God's mercy.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help, pray for us.

Ash Wednesday

That is an older update from the original source.

http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/abbott/151122

The latest is that Father Corapi now has a linkedin profile that appears authentic. There's always the possibility that people can create fake profiles, but this has been up for a while with no action to have it taken down. If true, he has resurfaced in street clothes, no collar. His profile refers to himself as just "John Corapi"

According to the profile, he is "not any longer engaged in public ministry in the Catholic Church" and "Working as a writer of both fiction and non-fiction articles, poems, and books. Also accepting limited speaking engagements to secular non-religious oriented audiences on topics of social, political, and philosophical interest."

We have no idea what this all means for his spiritual life and the status of his priesthood, all we know is that should keep praying for him and all priests nonetheless.

Um yeah...I'm going to believe what I had posted since this has been what I've been praying for, for quite a few years. Besides, I never believed any of the shenanigan claims that were against him because it was entirely out of character.

Praise be to God that He answered my prayers in the exact way that I asked. God is good :)

The man battled his demons before entering the priesthood and it seems they say have returned.  I like him and he was a tremendous orator. It's not everyone who was ordained but someone you can now call Saint! Keep praying for him.

With all due respect, just because you want something doesn't mean you're going to get it. We should be mindful not to believe a story just because we want it to be true. And by "you"/"we" I am speaking generally. I too was shocked when everything came to light. I remember watching his sermons on a bus trip to the March for Life a few years ago, and how the scandal broke not long after. I thought he was very holy and charismatic. I hope he finds his peace and comes back to the Church.

Wow, what did I just say? Darn intuitive typing.....

The truth is obvious about Fr. Corapi and anyone who doesn't believe he has returned to the Church is welcome not to. There are plenty of y'all out there anyway.

"With all due respect."

Looking at this from both sides: since he ceased being a public figure, we don't know if he ever formally renounced his faith, left the Church, or has been laicized. Not being in public ministry has been a matter of public record for some time now and is not the same as fully leaving the Church or priesthood. But to view the situation with rose colored glasses and without cause for concern would be naive.

All we can do is wait, see, and pray for him. I don't think this is really worth discussing much more at this point.

Well, despite what I said, of course I hope you're right :)

Corapi isn't worth an update, sorry.  There are plenty of priests that are really worth your time, like St John Vianney.  If you want to be truly amazed, read Pere Lamy's book.  Good living priests are in rather shorter supply.

That's not particularly charitable. Regardless of what he has or hasn't done, or handled the whole debacle -- he did have a big impact on a number of people in the past, so they do worry and wonder about him. I missed the part where wondering how someone was doing and studying the saints had to be mutually exclusive.

I've had my concerns and past criticisms about Father Corapi myself, but it doesn't do any good to just bring up the past, drag the guy through the mud and argue over him at this point. That's basically the direction most Corapi discussions take these days.

We have our updates now and there's nothing more beneficial to discuss. We don't need an ugly thread going into Christmas, so this thread is done.
