Mother Theresa Quotes

"The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread."

I've often thought that we have a hole in our souls from the fall, or whatever, that only God can fill permanently. We try to fill it with substances, purchases, people, but those are all temporary.

"I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things."

That's how I view my marriage. I can drive, he can't. He can use the phone, and I can't. Those are large things but it really permeates through our whole marriage.

"Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person."

Our whole enterprise of taking kids in started with one kid who fell through the cracks. We couldn't get the people who are paid our tax money to help kids like him to do their jobs, so we stepped in. With both feet into the deep end. We uncovered layers of these kids one at a time. Of course, we finally realized we couldn't help them all and can't help any of them if we destroy ourselves in the process. We've settled on three permanent ones and a couple who come back now and then when something bad happens like getting stabbed or paperwork stuff like needing their taxes done.

"That special power of loving that belongs to a woman is seen most clearly when she becomes a mother. Motherhood is the gift of God to women. How grateful we must be to God for this wonderful gift that brings such joy to the whole world, women and men alike! Yet we can destroy this gift of motherhood, especially by the evil of abortion, but also by thinking that other things like jobs or positions are more important than loving, than giving oneself to others. No job, no plans, no possessions, no idea of "freedom" can take the place of love. So anything that destroys God's gift of motherhood destroys His most precious gift to women-- the ability to love as a woman."

"If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other."

And this is a prayer rather than a saying, but I love it and it is beautiful just before Communion:

"Mary, give me your heart, so beautiful, so pure, so immaculate; your heart so full of love and humility, that I may be able to receive Jesus in the Bread of Life, and love him as you loved him, and serve him as you served him, in the distressing disguise of the poorest of the poor."

"If you can't feed a hundred people, feed just one."

Perfect for this time of year when we are deluged with petitions from charities.

"I am a pencil in the hands of a writing God who is sending His love letter to the world"

Always reminds me of how I am just an instrument for God to use according to His will!
