Brother Adam
Teresa and I met with Father Don today, and he listened to us and basically said "You're marriage is invalid, unsacramental and illicit." Basically, we are not married in any sense of the term, so we've been having premarital relations for nearly 10 months. I totally disagree with his premise for saying this. But now I'm flabergasted. homeschoolmom
I've never heard anything like this... Under what conditions were you married? I mean, you were married in a Christian church, right? But wait, you're both baptized Catholics... Hmmm....
Sojourner
Yeah, I'd be interested to know his basis for saying this.
Iacobus
Well even if he is right, that statments sounds wacky but you wouldn't have been sinning. I mean you thought you were married. Therefore not sinning. But that statements sounds ask about that.
Brother Adam
I've been talking to Phatcatholic about it. I understand his reasoning now, but still have to disagree with it on terms of logic and common sense. We'll see though. I suppose if we have to the Bishop would probably have final say in the matter right?
homeschoolmom
If you don't mind, can you explain the reasoning? I've been told a couple of times that we're okee-dokey.
Brother Adam
I PM'd you back homeschoolmom. It all comes down to someone baptized in a Catholic Church is bound no matter what to Catholic rules and laws, even if they totally reject the Church. Someone baptized in a Christian non-Catholic Church is not bound to the Church and thus their marriage would be valid.
Brother Adam
Leave it to come this far and then this end up a stumbling block. I've been told for over a year now at Phatmass that our marriage was sacramental. So I was all good until now.

homeschoolmom
In what way is it a stumbling block, other than it kinda hurts...? as Iocobus said, you believed your marriage to be valid, so (I doubt) you were commiting any sin since you weren't aware. What do you have to do now?
Brother Adam
What do you have to do now? Get married. And how is something not sin if you don't know it is a sin?
