TheresaThoma
I was blessed to be able to only take out 9k in students loans and I was able to get a grant to help me pay off about half. It still took me close to 5 years from when I stopped borrowing to pay off my loans completely. That is just my student loans. That doesn't include how much I have paid in other costs (airfare, gas, retreat fees etc) I have been lucky to find cheap airfare or use air miles but it still adds up over time. I would guess that is probably around 1k thus far and I know there are others who have paid much much more than I have.
marigold
Those infographics really spell it out. I'm glad I didn't go to university in America
Julie
This is a HUGE problem. Even though my school is super generous and everyone graduates with a fraction of the average debt, I know many people have to delay entry into the religious life because of loans. I'm hoping very much that things work out in the next year so that I don't have to be one of them, but I very well could be.
NovemberFourth
Ditto. I count myself so lucky that the repayment of Student Loans is a different matter here in the UK. My own loans are such that they do not have to be paid back unless you are earning a certain amount. If you are not earning enough money - you don't pay anything.
