Selah
I thought it would be kind of fun to do this I'm not going to include unconfirmed/unapproved apparitions or devotions that are condemned by the Church in some fashion, so keep that in mind when posting here too ^-^ These are just Marian devotions found around the world that some may not have heard, or are more tribal/local than, say, Our Lady of Fatima. 1. Maria Bambina The miraculous image of Maria Bambina was made prior to 1730 by a Franciscan nun who afterwards entrusted Her to others. During the ensuing years She came into the care of the Sisters of Charity at Lovere, Italy. In 1856 these Sisters of Charity were asked to take over the management of the Hospital of Ciceri in Milan and in 1876 this waxen image was carried to their Mother House there at Via S. Sofia 13, where She has remained ever since. http://www.sacramentals.org/MariaBambina.htm 2. Mother Thrice Admirable Today she is the patroness of the Schönstatt Community, a German-based Catholic community with lay and consecrated members. Devotion to Mary Thrice Admirable became a popular German Marian devotion. In 1896 Jesuit Father Franz Hattler wrote a book about Fr. Jakob Rem and the Colloqium Marianum. In 1915 a certain Father Joseph Kenntenich came across that book as he was in the process of setting up a Marian Sodality that was quickly turning into something more. http://saltandlighttv.org/blog/general/hidden-devotions-mother-thrice-admirable 3. Our Lady of Velankanni (Valenkanni Matha) Approximately 400 years ago, there was a small pond and on its bank was a huge banyan tree. A shepherd boy from Vailankanni used to carry milk everyday to a rich man in Nagapattinam which is ten kilometers away. On an unusually hot summer day, the boy, after quenching his thirst with the water from the pond, rested for a while in the shade of the banyan tree which stood beside the pond. Soon the boy fell into a deep slumber.Suddenly he was startled by the vision of a Lady of celestial beauty holding a lovely child in her arms. The boy could not take his eyes off the Lady of unmatched beauty, so spell bound was he by this heavenly vision. The Lady greeted him with a motherly smile and condescended to ask him for some milk for her child. He joyfully gave her some milk for her child and seeing a bewitching smile spread over the face of the heavenly baby, the boy experienced deep satisfaction. http://www.vailankannishrine.org/miracle.php Post others you find or know about ^^
NadaTeTurbe
Not really a devotion, but I discovered the apparition of Siluva, in Lithuania, in 1608. One summer day, in 1608, a number of children were playing while tending their sheep in a field on the outskirts of the village of Siluva. They beheld a beautiful young woman standing on the rock holding a baby in her arms and weeping bitterly. The town which had lost its Catholic identity to the Calvinists over the course of 80 years was restored to the Faith. The children beheld a beautiful young woman standing on the rock holding a baby in her arms and weeping bitterly. She did not speak, but looked at them sadly as she stood there, weeping as though her heart was breaking. So profuse were her tears that they ran down her cheeks and some of them splashed on the rock. The woman was dressed in flowing blue and white robes, unlike any costume with which the children were familiar. Her long, light-brown hair fell softly over her shoulders. A strange light surrounded both the woman and child. The Calvinist pastor who had denounced the apparition claims as satanic and "Roman superstition" was shocked to see the weeping woman and child. He regained his composure and asked, “Why are you weeping?” In a voice filled with sorrowful emotion, she replied, “There was a time when my beloved Son was worshipped by my people on this very spot. But now they have given this sacred soil over to the plowman and the tiller and to the animals for grazing.” Without another word, she vanished.
