This may be the first American slave but I do believe there were many enslaved people of other lands that have been made Priests and saints. There are even some nuns/consecrated women. Going back in History I believe some of the first disciples were freed slaves, and many of those are saints. I don't want to be mean, but being America-centric (eg not clarifiying first American slave to be beautified) is very off-putting on a board with people who live all over the world. dominicansoul
im not sure I know all the terms yet... Does this fall under "micro aggression" or maybe she should have issued a trigger warning first?

Mostly because slavery has existed for millenia and isn't a America/South American issue alone. Therefore, some basic research should be done before declaring that this is the first priest saint who was enslaved. St. Patric was a slave....he's a priest, and a saint. NadaTeTurbe
Woups, sorry, the friends that gave me the information said "first slave turned priest" and I did not think to check if it was true. But it's the first time that someone told me I'm america-centric. It's funny since I'm not even american
