dUSt
So I've always been drawn to praying litanies. Recently, I had an idea of "introducing" this form of prayer to some of my Protestant friends. The litany of the Holy Spirit is pretty amesome and there's nothing in it that might freak them out--so I'm thinking of starting with that one. 1 Whats your favorite litanies? 2. Know of any other litanies that won't freak Protestants out?
Seven77
1. I pretty much love all of them, especially the litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary (litany of Loretto), the holy name of Jesus, and the litany of Saints, honoring friends. 2. For Protestants, you can't go wrong with the litany to the Holy Spirit, and the litany of the holy name of Jesus.
Gabriela
The parish I was confirmed in has a sung version of the Litany of the Saints that always makes me cry. Here's one that's kind of similar, but sappier: Theirs is more upbeat and really powerful.
TheresaThoma
I always have had a soft spot for the Litany of Loretto. Though that is one that would freak most Protestants out, You may want to try the Litany of Humility. I have a friend that really likes that one. Luigi
Litany for Protestants? How would that go? Martin LUther, oh pray for us. Henry VIII, oh pray for us. John Knox, oh pray for us. John Wesley, oh pray for us. ???????????????????

PhuturePriest
Litanies have always been my least enjoyed form of prayer. Unless I try really hard, I lose focus on them almost instantly because the response is a simple "Pray for us" or "have mercy on us", and it doesn't take long before I'm just saying the response without paying attention. I suppose it doesn't help that the vast majority of them are really long. However, the litany of humility is the one litany I don't entirely dislike, and it refrains from calling Mary the Tower of Ivory and Seat of Wisdom. Go with that one. Co Mac
Litany of Trust... How has introducing Litanies to protestants gone for you?
dUSt
12 hours ago, Co Mac said: Litany of Trust... How has introducing Litanies to protestants gone for you? We ended up praying the Litany of The Holy Spirit and they loved it. The next time I saw one dude he actually told me he took the sheet of paper I printed out home with him and would pray it at home. Lately, I introduced them to praying the Psalms with a responsorial. They like doing that too. I'm pretty much the only Catholic at this Bible Study I attend, made up of mostly Christian and local secular rap artists. At the very least, I hope I've shown them that the Catholic Church is not something they should feel a need to badmouth or speak out against. Seven77
I also second the Litany of Trust as a litany that Protestants can get with. It's really beautiful and gets at the heart of our fears blocking us from receiving the love of God. I'm also partial to it because it was written by a friend who is a Sister of Life. Hey and then don't forget about the Litany of Humility composed by Cardinal Merry del Val.
