Favorite beatitude.

What I could hear over the screaming of children in the throes of sugar crashes, Father was talking about the beatitudes. Do you have a favourite?  Every time I hear the one about the meak inheriting the Earth, I remember the line from that movie that said that's what they'll get, dirt.

It's hard to pick a favorite, but I think today I'll go with:

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.

“Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy"  is especially fitting for the upcoming year of mercy. But, yeah, I think they're all great. I really like what Msgr. Pope, from the Archdiocese of Washington, says about the Beatitudes from a deep spiritual level ( Blessed are they who mourn… who mourn for the awful state of people in our society, etc.):

Thank you for sharing this, some points really stood out for me to reflect on further.

The first of the month the Marian Centre here has a public mass. That's a Catholic inner city homeless ministry. Most that come are volunteers in their soup kitchen, but some homeless come too. It was a great sermon topic for that audience.

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

When I reverted back to the faith in 2007, I bought a brown scapular with an image of Divine Mercy (though I didn't know it at the time).  Ever since then, Divine Mercy has been a constant presence in my life.  It is also my favorite devotion.  :)
