MarysLittleFlower
I'm sorry but Im not going to reply. I've said my view and I don't feel like having to debate it or defend it. If you disagree then you disagree. I'm sorry but I just can't debate anymore. Edited October 19, 2015 by MarysLittleFlower
blazeingstar
I'm sorry but Im not going to reply. I've said my view and I don't feel like having to debate it or defend it. If you disagree then you disagree. I'm sorry but I just can't debate anymore. No ones attacking you. You have a legitimate view but you stated some very silly reasons which are basically not true or are irrelevant. (Scientists priests and the weather) You're allowed to hold that opinion....its not like you are alone...you do have the pheatus on your side. dominicansoul
We've seen many tragedies in space exploration. This would be just another to add to that list. I don't think man has the capability of pulling this off safely. With that said, I don't even like leaving this earth for a few hours on a plane, so I can't imagine leaving this earth for good on a space ship... Lilllabettt
Having Communion is infinitely more important than any worldly pursuit IMO. pffft seeking the Truth is not a worldly pursuit. guessin you ain't a Dominican. I think you need to read C.S. Lewis' space trilogy

Oremus Pro Invicem
I will pass the glory on to someone else and happily stay here on planet Earth (Matthew 5:5)!
chrysostom
We could send a couple Carthusians along for the ride. They would be better equipped to deal with the isolation than anybody. They could literally separate themselves from the world. Maybe they could sneak a first-class relic on board. Hmmm...if, one day, a real colony were founded, who would be its patron saint? St. Bruno for the irony?
Basilisa Marie
So like, we do all know that there's a Russian Orthodox Chapel in Antarctica, right? No humans live naturally on that continent. The pursuit of truth is always a noble cause that gives great glory to God. We study Mars not just for its own sake, but because there's a strong possibility it can help us understand our own planet better, and good stewardship for creation is one of our duties as humans. Plus Christ is King of everything, not just our little dust speck of a planet. Our belief in "the resurrection of the body and the life of the world to come" also means the Paschal Mystey has eschatological implications for the whole of the cosmos. People bravely put themselves at great risk of dying without the sacraments all the time, here on earth. We can pray for a happy, peaceful, viaticum-filled death but whether or not we're given such a gift is entirely up to God. The astronauts brought their protestant version of communion to the moon. There's no reason why we couldn't take viaticum to Mars. Talk about food for the journey, right? There's absolutely nothing wrong with saying you don't see the point of a mission to Mars or that you'd rather die with a well founded hope to get last rites and viaticum. I think the thing people take issue with is that you're setting it up like it's either one or the other. That's a false dichotomy, it doesn't have to be science vs sacraments. dUSt
I'd rather just board a self sustainable spaceship and ride as far as I could get before dying.

superblue
I would have liked to embarked on that journey ,and i was rather excited for the Mars one project but sadly it is more and more turning out to be just hot air, with no way to contact those who are claiming to be putting it together and no way of seeing any progress towards the goal. Remember the movie Water World, it would probably be just as exciting to build your own ship, and live out on the sea for a few years, or for ever, never touching dry land. superblue
This. Absolutely. I knew as soon as I saw their lack of funding it wasn't going to get beyond the internet. which is super super lame on their part, because they drew a lot of attention and a lot of people took it serious. Looking back, I think they were hoping the hype of the idea would have drawn in investors, and instead they were surviving off of the entrance fees from those who submitted applications. They had some artist at best draw up conception artwork, and then your usual swag that you can create on your own on any 5 an dime website cups, shirts , hats etc.. I haven't been on their sight in a while, but i doubt there are any progress reports. Now they have to contend with NASA because, NASA has limited funding and now has a reason to go to Mars, ( to collect a sample of sludgy Mars water and drool over how special it is . ) As exciting as space exploration is, more an more it just seems to be planets too far away that could be " earth like ". It does make me wonder though, if resources / technology// scientists from all over the world, and were financially backed by their respective governments, could some kind of exploratory space ship be built to get to Andromeda ( which i think is the closest system ) to investigate what habitable planets are there. At the very least a probe that could send information back with in a human life time. Scratch all that, and you still have other science fiction avenues to explore, building underwater cities , a base on the moon, finding big foot.
