ThomasPeter
what is the differance between canon law, the girm, the missle, and redemptionis sacramentum? they all seem to be sets of rules, so why not have them in one big book? thanks! tom
cappie
The Code of Canon Law is the official body of laws for Catholics of the Roman or Latin Rite. it contains laws that define and govern the hierarchy of the Church, norms governing the teaching and the sanctifying office of the Church. John Paul II said the Code isnot intended as a substitute for the faith, its purpose is to create such order in the ecclesial society so that the faith and charisms of the church can grow. The GIRM pertains to the Roman Missal and the celebration of the Mass. Redemptionis Sacramentum is a letter from a congregation addressing certain things pertaining to the Eucharist. The Code therefore is the basic law that covers every aspect of the church and its life the others are subject to the code but deal with different aspects of the sanctifying role of the Church.
