Thy Geekdom Come

I finished Chapter I of my novel. Twelve pages, 12 pt. font, double-spaced on 12 full pages...that should come to about 20 novel pages...woohoo!

That's so cool. I'm hoping to write something this summer. Just have to figure out what.

What's the story about?

Hmmm...sort of a Lord of the Rings meets Narnia, Harry Potter, and Camelot genre...

Don't give up. A good friend of mine in high school wrote this.

Of course, any boring stuff will sell...case in point: my old seminary chaplain's book.

Wow!

I kind of have something in mind, but I always get discouraged, because I'm afraid it's not very interesting. But I guess I really shouldn't care about that, and just go ahead and write.

Keep us posted on the progress! :)

Don't get discouraged; it might be the devil behind it.

What I'm trying to do is make it as plot-heavy as Harry Potter, as well as with many, many allusions to other stories, etc., and I'm trying to bring in Tolkien's morality and Catholic symbolism, along with C.S. Lewis' humor and childish whimsy, and there is a bit of Lewis Carroll as well...all while the plot, character names, etc. are truly a mix of Camelot's medieval charm and just a touch of Shakespeare's analogies, vocabulary, and ambiguous euphamisms.

Sounds fascinating! Not an easy task, though. Did you plan most of it out beforehand (character names, places, little ideas and details) or is it just sort of flowing naturally as you go?

I've planned the major plot points, but the style and detail is all done while writing.
