My wife hung up on me!

So talking she tells me about her doctor's appointment and the results she got.

Turns out she is now diabetic - light form, nothing serious.

She always took care of herself; never smoked, never drank, exercised and stuff.  Now she's diabetic.

For myself, i drank like a swine, smoked, never exercised and couldn't care bordering my habit being sinful I dare say.

So she made the comparison and sounded kinda upset about he unfairness of it all.  So I wanted to make her feel better...

Naturally I wanted to make her feel better, so i started explaining to her that 'In life, there are winners, and there are losers...' and BANG!  She hung up on me!

I thought that kinda of rude of her.  I was well intended...   but after she hung up I couldn't help myself but start laughing.

Oye...

Purgatory purgatory purgatory...

:sad2:

That was a jerk move.  Diabetes is serious and making a comment about winners and losers just sounds totally out of touch.

Ouch!

I guess I better no mention her cancer then...

Well, actually it's a true story.

Although it has yet to be determined if the tumours are malignant or not. The doctor says in all likeliness she will be fine as it was caugth early on.

I work in a FIFO work place so while I am at work the mother in law came by from Montreal to help out.

And the wife actually has a good morale about the whole thing and she is keeping a sense of humour and she even found my comments comical (OK - so she didn't hang up on me, but anyone else likely would have!)

Divorce her immediately and force her to wear a scarlett letter I for impudence.

Are you crazy!? And miss out on the insurance opportunity! Come on! Get real!

That really stinks.  Are the tumors on the adrenials/pancreas causing the diabetes?

Heh. Your wife sounds like a very patient woman! God bless her, I'll be praying for you all. Been there done that, minus the diabetes. Sometimes the best thing you can do is have a sense of humor.

I understand how that could happen. I was once told by the director of a funeral home that even he doesn't always know what to say in the face of tragedy. Who hasn't tried to say something and had it come out completely the wrong way? At least you tried!

Its on her ovary.

As it happens, her mother had the same thing about 8 years ago (about).  Her mother was about 12 years older than my wife is currently.

Her mother got through it - and they had found it late in the game.  Odds were against her - big time.

My wife has it early on (lesson learned, we didn't wait to get it checked out).  She is younger, in better health, and odds are in her favor.  The doctors don't believe she will even need any chimo at this time (her mother had plenty).

So for the time being, we can certainly laugh a little about it.  May as well laugh a little while we can.  We haven't even told the kids yet.

There is a chance, as we are told, that the diabetes is caused by the tumours, so that once the tumours are out, the diabetes may go away.  But let's tackle one thing at a time here...

She needs your support, save the jokes for later.  When there's something wrong with your body, whether is be tumors, diabetes or a heart condition, it slaps you in the face and gives you a wake up call.....not to mention frayed nerves.  It's the unknown and just because someone else had it and got through it, it's not YOU and the outcome may not be the same.

Thanks for the comments Mak.

I do agree with everything you said.  Keep in min the snippet above is maybe 1 minute out of an hour long conversation, and many others after that.

I just stuck to the 'funny part' in this thread.  I am not completely senseless...

My wife is quite agitated.  The mother-in-law being there helps tremendously.

We should be getting some more results in the next few business and will know more.  Still keeping our optimism about the whole thing thus far.

I'll keep both of you in my prayers, Didacus.  This is difficult for you as well.  I had a life changing health event a few months ago and it was just as scary and difficult for my husband. Now, I have accepted it, understand the weird feelings and am dealing with it but it taught me a great lesson!

Nurses make the worst patients! (that wasn't the lesson.....that's a fact!)
