Several Simple Catholic Questions

Recommended Posts

Ok, I've had several simple Catholic questions to ask, but I don't want like 5 threads so I'm just going to compile them all into one!

1. Is it Ok, to pray the Glory be, or other prayers when the Holy Spirit is mentiond to pray it Holy Ghost?

2. On EWTN's World Over they had a liturgist that said instead of saying "And also with you" during mass, because that's like same to you Father, not really sometimes meaning it, we can say, "With your spirit".

Is this allowed, or will people plainly think I'm crazy?

3. Who is Fr. Gobbi, I was reading in a book about how he received an apparation from Mary, on how to gain Salvation, is this an approved apparation, and can you provide a site for the history?

4. There were two people in the Old TEstament that didn't die, one was Elijah, who was the second person? Was it Enoch?

Thanks for taking time to answer these 'simple' questions!

Take care and God Bless,

Eddie +JMJ

the_rev,

Good questions all around. Unfortunately, I've never heard of the man mentioned in #3, so I can't address that one directly. Sorry about that. But here's the answers I do have (for what they're worth)...

1.) Sure, that's fine; the only caveat with that is that the pray-er needs to remember that we don't believe in ghosts, so the concept in the term "Holy Ghost" doesn't get confused with something like the three ghosts in A Christmas Carol.

2.) If you wanted to respond "tacos, so very tasty and good for you, with coagulated milk" no one will stop you; however, the current approved translation of "Et cum spiritu tuo" is "And also with you." I encourage you to stick with that until it changes.

3.) Again, I've never heard of Fr. Gobbi, so I can't tell you whether the supposed apparitions are legit. However, I can tell you how to achieve salvation:

a> Get baptized.
a'> Believe in God and His saving power.
b> Do good and avoid evil.

You can also do cool stuff like "go to confession" and "go to Mass," but the absolute essentials are listed above. ;)

4.) You are correct; neither Enoch nor Elijah (Elias) died, but "walk[ed] with the Lord." Hope this helps.

Yours,
Pio Nono
