I  don't know much of the history, but I don't think that simply blaming the internet is right.  Catholic Answers has a constantly growing subscriber base and there's still a ton of forums out there for raising Chickens, Weddings, Linux---you name it.  I feel bad that Phatmass is shrinking but I don't think it's the fault of "the internet"

That said, Dust is one person, and it's not really fair that all money, admin, etc stuff be left to him.  It's too bad that PM can't be joined with a bigger force and be the go-to place for teens and college students and those who aren't yet ready for the big leagues of Catholic Answers.

The Phorum is less busy. It doesn't mean phatmass is shrinking. Phatmass wouldn't exist if it wasn't for this community, but it is more than just the phorum. We are are doing less and less music and investing more and more in video production. My plan is to make a series of Catholic learning videos that don't smell of elderberries. Basically--I looked at one of the greatest needs in the church, which I think is better education, and tried to figure out the best way to reach who I think we should be focusing on--drifting away Catholics. I think short "internet attention span" videos are a good way to do this. Oh, and did I mention they won't smell of elderberries.

Phatfeed--kinda like buzz feed?  Where a bunch of hipsters who are totaly ego-centeric dole out tons of advice for the rest of us?  That would be kinda cool.  We could even have our own Phatfeed food channel where we have spanish Catholics try polish catholic food, etc.

I think I mentioned it before, and you liked the idea, but what about a series of 5-10 minute videos explaining major papal encyclicals in an easily-digestible way? Lots of source material to draw from.

Totally down. I put you in charge of writing the scripts. I'll produce the videos.

How many words do you want the script to be, what encyclical will it be on, and when do you want it ready?

(Personal preference would be Libertas or Humanae Vitae.)

The script should be long enough to be 5 minutes, short enough to be 5 minutes. Both of those sound great.

More precise question: what is a good WPM speaking rate for the kind of video you want to make?

I figure a 5 minute video would be about 2/12 minutes of talking. So, whatever that is?

What happens in the other 2 1/2 minutes?

FYI: Summaries of papal encyclicals related to preaching are on the proposal for my job description. If I get the job, we'll have those covered.

You guys should cover the non-preaching ones. Otherwise, we'll duplicate efforts.
