Alberto Guimaraes
Peace and good! The Spanish TV presenter and journalist Adela Úcar wanted to experience what it is to be penitent during Holy Week at Jerez de los Caballeros. Penitents of this town, called "Empalaos", go by night through the streets of the town, barefoot, bound with strong cords, with a log of wood crossed on the shoulders (weight 25 kg. In the case of Adela), his face covered with a black mask, crowned with thorns and with chains on their ankles. Here is a video of that experience barefoot experience by Adela: https://www.youtube..com/watch?v=NHqofaCukwc And here are some articles on the subject: http://www.cuatro.com/21-dias/temporadas/temporada-05/t05xp05-21-dias-de-penitente/Adela_Ucar_penitente-21_Dias_de_penitente_4_1578735014.html http://www.cuatro.com/21-dias/temporadas/temporada-05/t05xp05-21-dias-de-penitente/Adela-Jerez-Caballeros-cadena-corona_2_1579230091.html https://twitter.com/adelaucar/status/316536077550759936 It seems that Adela is not very accustomed to walking barefoot, to verify the complaints of foot pain at the end of the procession. If Portugal had these forms of penance ... I certainly would also had the experience! Jesus, Mary and Francis be with you, keep you and bless you! Br.
