Nihil and mihi

I'm told it's a France vs The World split, but the guy who taught me (...yes, he was a Frenchman) said that the French pronunciation was based on the way the words were spelled in old manuscripts.

How do you say yours?

I think the poll are my vote, but I tend toward ni-kil and mi-ki. That being said, I will say it the other way if it "fits" with what's being said or sung.

I say "Nihil and mihil", but in France, they taught you "nikil and mikil", because in the Middle age, people wrote "Nichil and Michil", (and ch = k)

The "k" sound in "mihi" drives me insane. I hate it. I say "mihi", with an "h".

This is what I was taught. Unfortunately now I sing with a bunch of non-French people, so I have to try and remember to sing ni-hil and mi-hi. That remembering...doesn't always happen.

Once upon a time I read that in Latin, the "h" is silent, EXCEPT when it is between two vowels.  So personally, I prefer mi-ki and ni-kil -- but I've never actually heard anyone say it that way, not even the priests I know who are super good at Latin.  If I'm praying/singing with others, I'll usually say mi-hi and ni-hil so as not to stand out.
