Paladin D
(On a side note, though you may like this link http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5202767/) Why are some people against SUVs? I've heard that they are gas-guzzilers, but what about pick-up trucks? I just don't understand the argument.
Joseph
If I am not mistaken, I believe some smaller trucks get pretty good gas mileage.
1337 k4th0l1x0r
There are other safety issues as well. For one thing, SUVs are treated as trucks as far as safety regulations. This is a problem when most families use SUVs in the way minivans are used: family trips, taking kids to soccer games, getting groceries, etc. Trucks themselves are top heavy, so they're easy to flip. SUV's are even more top-heavy, so they are even more likely to flip. The safety regulations for an SUV thus are not nearly as good as for a minivan and therefore it is more dangerous to take a carload of kids around in a much less safe vehicle. Of course, this could be changed, but it would require the government to do so and the automakers would lobby against this as it would require radical redesign and increase the cost of the SUVs. So in the meantime, we're stuck with alot of unsafe vehicles when a safe minivan would work just fine.
Lil Red
and another thing - most SUVs are built on truck frames, but not built like a truck - so there are more safety issues concerning that.
